“RAFAH, Gaza Strip — The U.N. food agency said Monday that “famine is imminent” in northern Gaza, where 70% of the remaining population is experiencing catastrophic hunger, and that a further escalation of the war could push around half of Gaza’s total population to the brink of starvation.“
In the past decade, #Putin has taught the world a master class on using #homophobia as a political weapon. Now he is showing us what #homophobia looks like as a #WeaponOfWar.
Investigators have a chance to build a case in #Ukraine unlike anything ever seen under international law: that persecuting #LGBTQ+ people constitutes a #CrimeAgainstHumanity.
The targeting of #LGBTQ+ people in #conflict — such as #ISIS making a spectacle of executing men accused of homosexuality by throwing them off buildings — has received much attn in recent yrs, but no #international#tribunal has ever held that this kind of persecution violates #InternationalLaw.
Jurists have done painstaking work to make clear how existing international #law gives the #ICC the power to investigate persecution on the basis of #sexuality & #gender identity. #Russia#Putin#Ukraine
Twelve of Israel’s most prominent human rights organisations have signed an open letter accusing the country of failing to comply with the international court of justice’s (ICJ) provisional ruling that it should facilitate access of humanitarian aid into Gaza.“
The Lords have 'defeated' the #RishiSunak#Rwanda bill, by making it confirm to #internationallaw and ensuring there is proper oversight of its provisions... should it ever actually become practical policy.
So presumably when it comes back to the House of Commons we'l see the unedifying attempt by (some) MPs to remove the requirement that the bill conforms to international law, thereby further contributing to the decline of the UK international reputation?
This 26-minute video of the Arab League’s presentation to the ICJ absolutely shreds any semblance of legitimacy in respect of Israel’s Zionist reign of terror over the Palestinian lands since 1917!
Despite its legalese, it’s well worth taking the time to watch! You’ll be stunned!

“We as South Africans sense, see, hear and feel to our core the inhumane, discriminatory policies and practices of the Israeli regime as an even more extreme form of the #apartheid that was institutionalized against black people in my country.”
— Vusimuzi Madonsela, South African ambassador to the #Netherlands
A record number of nations participated in the hearing at the International Court of Justice concerning the legality of Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories, now in its 8th decade. A ruling is not expected for a few months.
In 2004, the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel's separation wall in occupied Palestine is illegal and ordered it be dismantled and compensation paid to those affected. Israel ignored the ruling (as it has ignored every UN resolution and ruling of international law against it) and its western allies did nothing to ensure the ruling was observed.
Secy of State #Blinken announced a reversal of the #Trump admin’s position on #Israeli#settlements in the #WestBank on Fri, saying they are “inconsistent w/ #InternationalLaw.”
“Our administration maintains firm opposition to settlement #expansion,” Blinken told reporters at a news conference in Argentina. “In our judgment, this only weakens — it doesn’t strengthen — #Israel’s #security.”
#Canada has nixed plans to make oral arguments at the International Court of Justice about #Israel's occupation of the #Palestinian territories.
The UN General Assembly has asked the court for a non-binding opinion on the potential legal consequences of Israel's policies and practices in the region.
Two weeks ago, military juntas controlling #Niger, #Mali, and #BurkinaFaso announced their countries' "immediate withdrawal" from #ECOWAS, #WestAfrica's regional integration bloc. This is a big deal.
The #ECOWAS treaty, which is incorporated into the laws of #Niger, #Mali, and #BurkinaFaso through past ratification, states in Article 91 that member countries can only withdraw from the organization after "one year's notice in writing".
Israel has absolutely no "right to defend itself" under #Geneva or any other body of #InternationalLaw. We would be in the darkest moments of ethical-juridical corruption if occupying powers had the right to attack the occupied. Each and every insistence that its legal to murder civilians in trapped in a ghetto suggest that we are.
On the other hand, Protocol I guarantees the right of the occupied to resist by any means necessary. Because occupation is brutal, cruel, and necessarily fascist when prolonged. Stop spreading these reactionary lies!
We could not have found a better expert to write this article, as Fedele is research fellow at the university of Lille and focusses in his work on premodern #diplomacy and international law. His seminal study “Naissance de la diplomatie moderne” is available open access.
South Africa's application to the International Court of Justice, to establish Israel’s responsibility for violations of the Genocide Convention, hold it fully accountable under international law, and ensure the protection of Palestinians in Gaza:
This case is distinct from South Africa vs Israel (in regard to its violations to the Genocide convention) but its timing is great: it maintains the pressure and the topic in the headlines.
