We interrupt today's topics (Maine mining, environmental destruction and debates over tribal sovereignty) to bring you a #SilentSunday#MarshMadness picture of the #SacoHeath in #Maine. Enjoy! (And now back to my usual posts...)
We took a trip to the Lincoln Park Zoo today and saw the Wetland exhibit in the Birdhouse. Not the best photos but thought it would be a good contribution to #MarshMadness :)
It's #MarshMadness so here are a few pictures of my favourite raised peatland in different seasons.
This is probably my favourite type of bog. I often see the first bees and butterflies here in the spring. Also who doesn't like cloudberries? It's outskirts are great for mushoom picking.
It is a calming and peaceful environment and in the winter it almost has a sacred vibe to it somehow.
This is also where peat comes from. These bogs should be protected instead of harvested.💚🌎
Hey, how’s your #MarshMadness going? I’m currently in Arizona, so don’t have any marshes nearby. That means I need to see your wetland photos, including critters like turtles, birds, fishies, reptiles, and all the cool plants you can send my way!
A few days ago, before the snow returned, I made it out to celebrate a little early #MarshMadness (with this even earlier orange-crowned warbler) amidst the thick reeds and rushes that were shooting up everywhere in a riot of ruddy goodness. The sounds and smells and colors were so brilliant, and the whole wetland felt like it was waking up.
I was told estuaries count, so have a pic from my trip home. Poor quality due to ancient iPad and today's sunset wasn't quite as spectacular as usual, but still the best part of my commute.
