The newly discovered #asteroid 2023 FW13 (a=1.00 au; see MPEC G10) seems to be a quasi-satellite of the Earth. A preliminary simulation with @tony873004's orbit simulator shows it in this configuration for several centuries at least.
INCREDIBLE images from China's Chang’e 6 lander, which landed on the far side of the moon late on June 1 and lifted off in an ascent vehicle with the first lunar samples from the far side of the moon yesterday.
Anyhow. came across this picture of the #Moon taken during daylight through our telescope in 2020. The photo was actually done with a mobile phone right up to the eyepiece, so a very amateur bit of astronomy!
So last night was (for me) a night off with my hobby. For about 13 hours I got to enjoy the night sky at its best. It started with a moonset to die for! The colour of sunset was magnificent and I managed to spot the 4% illuminated moon descending towards the southern alps.. Gosh, the night got better and better #moon#NewZealand
If you have the chance to see the upcoming solar #SolarEclipse on April 8, go for it! Even if you've seen an annular #eclipse or an almost total one, the difference between that and a fully total one is like night and day –– pun intended!
Here's a shot I snapped of the 2019 eclipse from ESO's La Silla Observatory in #Chile. I vividly remember seeing the #Moon 's shadow crawling towards us from the Pacific Ocean. Unforgettable!
I'm thinking of writing this retro-futuristic techno thriller where the US manages to put people on the #Moon using only 1960s technology, former Nazi rocket scientists etc.
Dusted off my amateur very basic telescope I haven't used in years. Considering this pic is taken by pressing my phone to the telescope's eyepiece I like the result.
ICUMI , I took a few more photos of the #moon with the Digi-Camera and downloaded them overnight.
Here's some #FullMoon shots, including the video link https://mstdn.ca/@Rasta/111147474691566084 there was so much red in the moon (wildfire smoke) that I tried a black and white too
IMO I've had better full-moon shoots, I'll take what I can
A waxing gibbous moon framed in the fork of an eroded branch of a Pinus longaeva (Great Basin bristlecone pine) at ~3,048m (10,000ft) in the White Mountains of California. (This is a single frame photo made by a human, #notAI.)
“We are at risk of a Wild West scenario due to the rivalries between competing space agencies and commercial interests. … A new International space treaty is urgently needed.”
Yesterday’s annular eclipse as viewed from a city park on the outskirts of Hondo, #Texas. There was a broad layer of high clouds when we arrived but luckily they broke up & blew away just in time for the main event. Had to get up in the wee hours and drive 225 miles (362 km) west to get right in the center of the path but it was well worth it.
