India, Pakistan attempted to interfere in Canada's elections: CSIS

In the case of the 2019 election, CSIS said the Canadian government conducted what it called a "threat reduction measure" ahead of the vote, meant to "reduce the foreign interference threat posed by the Government of Pakistan."

"The situation was monitored and assessed to have effectively reduced the threat of interference," CSIS wrote.

Another step is severely beefed-up policing of political content. Although I'm critical of its use, could, in this case, be used to pre-screen all content. "Problematic" contents and accounts (tbd) would be evaluated by a likewise beefed-up force, to be either forwarded to the prosecution or to the command/ agents or discarded.

“These state AGs are directly responding to Musk’s pleas - helping him punish critics.”

The rush to defend against the org., a newly anointed enemy of the right, underscores Musk’s rising profile among Rs as a free-speech crusader.

Is it worth it to write this one piece on Elon/X if it means that you’ll be stuck in a M$ legal battle? Most newsrooms can't pay legal fees to fight Musk, esp. now that ST AGs are stepping in.

I repeatedly asked her press team to add me to their media email lists to no avail & they rebuffed my credential requests. A reporter from the NYT told me: experienced difficulty getting credentialed by the Haley team. A separate reporter: his friends in the foreign press corps had groused about their inability to get credentialed by any GOP cands. DeSantis admitted -regretted ignoring traditional news outlets.

Today in Labor History December 9, 1935: Walter Liggett, American newspaper editor and muckraker, was murdered in a drive-by shooting with a Thompson submachine gun, as he stepped out of his car, groceries in his hand. His wife and daughter were in the car and witnessed his death. Liggett was a card-carrying member of the American Socialist Party, but he was more of a Mid-Western Populist-Socialist than a Marxist. In the 1920's he participated in efforts to free Sacco and Vanzetti and Thomas Mooney. In a series of articles, he accused Farmer-Labor politicians of collusion with the organized crime family of Isadore Blumenfield. He accused Minnesota Governor Floyd Olson of corruption and said that he should be impeached and prosecuted. In response, Blumenfield tried to bribe him to stop his exposés, but Liggett refused. Blumenfield and his gang savagely beat Liggett up. Liggett escalated his attacks and began printing a list of reasons for Olson's impeachment on the front page of the Midwest-American. Soon after, he was murdered.

A locked account, replied this to me:

“ CW us politics, please. “

No. I don’t CW actual news unless it’s gory or otherwise extremely disturbing.

This is why people leave Mastodon, (not me) folks.

I replied back that I don’t CW news and that they should mute me.

If I get kicked off my server for that, so be it. I’ll go to Threads or Bsky.

The prosecution of Julian Assange Assange is a serious violation of the First Amendment. A bipartisan group of members of Congress have now written a letter opposing prosecution.

The article was issued by the BDS movement in May 2021 during the brutal 11 day aerial bombardment of Gaza, and it continues to be relevant.

I still can’t stomach the fact that 🇮🇱 destroyed an 11 story building, housing the headquarters of 2 media organisations, as well as 60 residential apartments, and the international community simply turned a blind eye.

This is story is wild: a police department raided the Marion County Record in retaliation because one of the reporters viewed information on an influential person; there was no affidavit filed to obtain the search warrant, and several elderly people were put under undue stress and endangered, and in fact one, Joan Meyer, has died.

And there's more!

The cops are now "withdrawing the warrant"--after disrupting the paper's operation, costing them money, and with the stress causing the death of one of the co-owners, now they go, "oopsies, here's your shit, no harm done"?

The paper is bringing a federal suit and GOOD FOR THEM.
