"Our Judaism cannot be protected by the rampaging military of that state, for all that military does is sow sorrow and reap hatred – including against us as Jews.
Our Judaism is not threatened by people raising their voices in solidarity with Palestine across lines of race, ethnicity, physical ability, gender identity and generations.
Our Judaism is one of those voices and knows that in that chorus lies both our safety and our collective liberation."
A transcript of #NaomiKlein's speech at the Seder in the Streets in front of Senator Schumer's house in New York City. 👇
This thread is the whole speech because, well, it's that important -- Klein went out in public and claimed a path for US Jewish futures that is in coalition with those harmed by Zionism, but that is also deeply nested within Judaism as a multi-millennial tradition. We're lucky to live and breathe at the same time as Naomi Klein...
I'm sure Naomi Klein's speech at the Columbia University protests, on the day of the Jewish Passover, Seder, has been posted and shared by many already here, but I wanted to do so myself. She speaks with such power, clarity, and moral authority. Amazing person
Two blog posts today, going into deep dependencies in our political discourse and the dangers lurking for democracy within them.
In this first post I explore how political polarisation is the most efficient tool of malicious governments like Russia and China to influence our western democracies to make them weaker at resisting their imperial push
In this second blog post, I explore how the populist right deals in trafficking ideas from the critical left and reinterpreting them in a different framework.
I end on a positive note that perhaps we should at least recognise the need for solutions on the problem of multinational corporations wielding too much power as unifying the left & right here.
Notable/frequent guests include Noam Chomsky, Naomi Klein, Edward Snowden, Vandana Shiva, David Graeber, Greta Thunberg, and so many more not listed on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy_Now!
Echoing #NaomiKlein assertion that the far right has gained ground by picking up the progressive issues the Democrats have dropped (and given them a fascist spin of course). And showing us the Dem mainstream wants to protect neoliberal policy more than they want to win elections.
[Novethic] - BOYCOTTER ISRAËL SUR LE MODÈLE DE L’APARTHEID EN AFRIQUE DU SUD : L’APPEL DE NAOMI KLEIN.
"Israel is both a replica of settler colonialism and also a new iteration of it, because it's been cast as 'reparation' for genocide. This is a new twist."
Reading #NaomiKlein on Hans #Asperger's development of the diagnosis of #autism: literally, as 'a deficit of fascism'. Fascinating framing of history & context in which the diagnosis emerged.
As part of her wonderful, in-depth analysis of the cultural shifts in which we are drowning, Klein writes insightfully of her experience raising her autistic son & her encounters with the deficit narrative & the communities it sustains. As always, she contextualises her experience in ways that are deeply illuminating.
Her writing style is dense, with lots to digest, but rewards the effort. A champion infodumper who sees All The Things at once AND the connections between them, I claim her as one of ours. Naomi, I hope you don't mind 💜 @actuallyautistics
