Circulating word is that #LAPD plans to disperse #UCLA Palestinian solidarity encampment at 6. A number of groups including faculty and campus unions are planning on rallying in defense. Meanwhile an administrator has entered the camp to negotiate
there are D.C. scum calling #StudentSpring "pro-HAMAS protests". the minute anybody in the #Biden admin parrots that shit, all bets are off with #Democrats.
so all liberals on here screaming #VoteBlue no matter who, y'all better get your asses in gear and tell every single person in the White House to drop that shit immediately.
am not some magical Cassandra. i have +30 years experience with the treachery of Democrats against antiwar activists.
met my bestie when we were transfer undergrad students at #NYU trying to navigate a new city and new culture as twenty-something n00bs.
they called to discuss the #StudentProtests. they don't use social media and still depend on legacy media.
they said you would not know these protests were organized with the blessing of Jewish Voices for Peace and in solidarity with Jewish student organizations. she doesn't recall seeing anything about Seders on campus protests. 🧵
The counter-protestors at #UCLA included a large number of bona fide antisemites. Their only care for Jewish safety is how to exploit it for political gain.
What I witnessed that Tuesday night chilled me to the bone - one of the men named in this article screamed at me and my colleague that white supremacy will rule and white violence will come. We were standing on the sidelines as observers.
« … the fact of the matter is that some 67% of Americans according to recent polls support the United States calling for a ceasefire and 60% opposed sending more weapons to Israel… »
Utrecht University’s board has promised to “reasses” its ties to the Zionist Entity. We recognise this message for what it is: a tactic to placate the masses, keep us silent while the death toll rises to over 45,000 people in Gaza.
We have stated our demands time and time again. However, the university remains insistent on being complicit to genocide and would rather call the riot police on its own students and staff, rather than stand on the right side of history.
Come and join us in demanding an end to our University’s ties to apartheid and genocide. Bring whatever resources you can, as much food and supplies as possible, and join us in the streets as we take back our university.
🇵🇸 In our thousands, in our millions, we are ALL Palestinians. 🇵🇸'
Block’s decisions have resulted in rubber bullets - which can be lethal - fired at our students. There is word from those on the ground that a student was shot in the face. Faculty and students arrested, as police was cheered on by counter-protestors.
The same violent mob of white supremacists and alt-right supporters of Israel violently attacked the camp two nights ago. The level of state violence and suppression of free speech rivals that of dictatorships.
Spoke to @CNN this morning about the violent dismantlement of the Palestine Solidarity Encampment at #UCLA. The horrific escalation by Gene Block’s administration is sacrificing our student safety and academic community for political clout.
The encampment exemplified democracy, and its destruction only furthers the decay of what little civil society we have left.
#UCLA's Palestine solidarity encampment just posted an update on their telegram - UCLA has declared it unlawful, and administration has reached out to start negotiations. Organizers have been holding occupy-style general meetings and plan to continue that to guide negotiations
The fundamental flaw of well-meaning politicians who have the right values and want to do the right thing is that the longer they serve, the more most of them come to fear chaos more than the injustice that drove them to politics.
This leads to 2 things: they're slow to recognize dramatic changes in the status quo, and they instinctively defend the status quo against such changes. #JoeBiden is a perfect example of this, as demonstrated by his recent speech about #StudentSpring. #politics
“When members of the public are engaged in a peaceful #protest in a public space—assuming they are not obstructing traffic, or disrupting campus activities—there is very little legal basis for law enforcement to demand they leave.”
A poster was shared on social media to promote the protest. A description of the event said protesters were "delivering a message to #McGill administration that we refuse to stand by quietly while they remain complicit in #genocide."
This morning, police made more arrests at #UCLA. I held a sign saying "support free speech" and "UCLA Faculty". A woman approached me to debate what had happened, and quickly devolved from charging students with antisemitism to the efficacy of vaccines. She was an alumna. I hope our conversation moved her some, but I'm not holding my breath.
«This week, the Senate may pass a bill granting the executive branch extraordinary power to investigate and strip nonprofits of tax-exempt status based on a unilateral accusation of wrongdoing.»
Democrats have a narrow majority in the US Senate. tell me again how exactly are Democrats proving they are antifascist?
this is an important article for his focus on the cognitive #linguistics of protests:
«"I believe the “Cease-fire now” slogan is most important. On a college campus, that slogan should be twinned with the slogan of “Free speech.” If I were in your situation, I would say “Free Gaza, free speech”...»
