Serbia used to dominate Yugoslavia, and was very well off due to that. Nowadays, Croatia and Bosnia's economies are making bank, and Serbia is left in the doldrums because political dominance and siphoning wealth was all they had going. Which explains why Serbia fought so hard in the nineties to keep them under her thumb.

Anyway, we were talking about why #England hates the idea of #Scottish and #Welsh #independence.

it's so funny how decided /k/ should be written c and the letter k would not ever be written and decided /k/ should be written k and c should be only used in digraphs (ch /ʃ/ and c'h /x/) like siblings wearing opposite clothes in order to have individual identities

So when there are more than one word for things in welsh like merch and hogan, bachgen and hogyn, licio and hoffi, llaeth and llefrith, rwan and nawr, is this because of north and south welsh or is it just a thing?

Starlings¹, derived from the Old word 'Staer', are known for their mesmerizing gatherings in massive flocks during autumn and winter, a breathtaking spectacle known as murmurations.

In , Starlings have an intriguing connection to Myna birds², both of which are capable of mimicking human speech. One fascinating tale from medieval lore revolves around Branwen³, the daughter of Llyr. Mistreated by her Irish husband, Branwen teaches a tamed starling to speak and sends it across the Sea to inform her brother, Bran, who then raises an army to rescue her. This myth highlights the intelligence attributed to starlings and their association with communication and aid in .

Additionally, historical names for Starlings reflect various aspects of their behavior and appearance. For instance, the term "Sheep Stare" from highlights their habit of alighting on the backs of sheep to pick at ticks in their coats, a behavior beneficial to both parties.

Someone shared this to the Welsh imploring them NOT to cut funding for cultural institutions:

Sign it if you can: these and are losing so much funding and so many staff members under the proposed cuts, it's absolutely unworkable.

Just listening to and cringing at Rishi Sunak pronouncing Wylfa as "Wilffer" with a hard F. If it was a French word for example, I guarantee he would have pronounced it correctly but just doesn't seem to warrant even minimal effort. It's disrespectful, and he knows it.

I'm just looking for one thing: the command form of 'to break.' Or just 'break' as a command to an inanimate object.

(Not as in 'take a break' but as in 'fall apart'.)

I don't trust google translate for this as command forms are less likely to appear there...

This resource proved really helpful in understanding that, in Welsh, the type of 'Yes' or 'No' you need to use ultimately depends on the tense of the question. ⤵️ 🙂
