Got a replacement blower #ECM#motor from northamericahvac.com - had to order from the States. Installed it, and ... furnace was still throwing an #error code meaning "incorrect #signal from ECM motor" once, then "no signal from ECM motor" forever after.
After double-checking, I saw the part number on the box didn't match what I'd ordered - but that turned out to be a red herring. The box number was for the unprogrammed motor.
So I dug around until I found a #current part that exceeds all the #specs of the old one. Of course it's a different size, and a completely #incompatible#pinout, so I'm going to have to #bodge it, but I half-expected that anyway.
Just getting a #datasheet for the old part, to figure out what specs it had to have, was surprisingly #difficult. What is it with some companies thinking the specs for the product they want you to buy are Top Secret?
I'm going to have a bit of a #tech#rant (less charitable people might say #whine) here. If you just want jokes and cute bunny pictures, feel free to skip this one.
Object of my #ire this week? #Furnaces. I'm not even going to rant about their main control boards; most of that's been said better than I could say it, by others with more knowledge than I.
However, when you push a current through a conductor, it "pushes back" some, fighting the change to its magnetic state. This is normal; you sometimes have to account for it to prevent damage to the driving electronics. It's called "back-EMF".
I have not slept well at all. Instead of working on negotiating layoffs, leadership is taking this extended break to congratulate themselves for what they've done. Meanwhile, workers of all disciplines and levels are either scrambling to find work or understanding what next steps they can take.
I truly don't understand how people who run layoffs sleep well at night - knowing that you've signed off on the destabilizing action of so many.
I should have switched it to particulates mode so you can actually see where all the smoke is coming from. If you zoom out you can see just how bad it is in Canada right now.
"President Biden spoke to Governor DeSantis this morning. He told him that he quickly approved the Emergency Declaration for Florida as they prepare for Hurricane Idalia," according to the White House. "President Biden said Florida will have his full support as they prepare for Idalia and its aftermath. President Biden also expressed his commitment to ongoing support for the people of Jacksonville following the horrific shooting on Saturday."
Southern Norway and Denmark are having a miserable summer, but northern Norway just set several new high temperature records and had a tropical night. (Min temperature was above 20C).
Indeed: in Norway, the South and the North are on different sides of a depression, getting Northern and Southern winds respectively, where there should have been the usual West-East air flow. It's bananas.
