Valve is seeing an increasing number of bug reports for issues caused by Canonical's repackaging of the Steam client through snap.
The best way to install Steam on Debian and derivative operating systems is to follow the instructions at http://repo.steampowered.com/steam/ and use the official .deb
We are not involved with the snap repackaging. It has a lot of issues.
If you don't want the .deb, please at least consider the flatpak version.
Hello, world! 👋 It’s your friendly neighborhood app store here on the Fediverse! Check our profile, we’re verified. 😎
Speaking of which… if you’re an app developer and want to get your app verified on Flathub, check the docs! If you need any help, give us a shout here.
I'll keep saying it, because it keeps coming up. If you're working in the FreeDesktop, Linux, or Flatpak spaces, you need to understand this, even if you don't personally care about gaming or Steam Deck.
Thunderbird family, thank you for your unending patience. Some of you may have noticed this already, but we're happy to say that Thunderbird 115 is now available on Flathub!
Enjoy Supernova, enjoy your Friday, and thanks as always for supporting free and open-source software
To make it more interesting we're setting a deadline! We will be launching the new banners on April 20th, so for the possibility to be featured during the first week, update your apps today :)
You may have seen the “Verified” badge on apps from Flathub which shows that the developer has proven ownership of their app, e.g. via their website or code host.
With great adoption (nearly 1,000 verified apps!), we’re trying something out to help with transparency:
⚠️ Unverified
If you see this, it flags that the app has not been verified by its developer—it’s effectively a community-maintained package.
Steam will soon use the desktop portal file picker.
In practice, it means Steam will use your native desktop method for selecting and saving files, resulting in better user experience and desktop integration.
This is one of many things Flatpak and GNOME pioneered that improves the Linux desktop for everyone.
The #Flatpak is a community effort, automated from the official release. That feels a bit off for your password manager; the thing that holds all your secrets.
A community post from 2021 asking them to maintain it only got 211 votes, 117 likes, and 46 comments but over 10k views. I and other #OpenSource folks commented and said we'd be happy to help, but never heard back.
Tabbed section with trending, popular, new and updated apps
This has been almost a year in the making, including tons of work on documentation, backend, frontend, and the actual metadata in apps. Special thanks to @razze and @tbernard!
Developers of apps on Flathub, some questions for you!
First, what's your app? Why did you choose Flathub to distribute your app? Do you distribute on other stores/distribution methods, or just Flathub—and why? What's something you like about Flathub? What's something that could be better?
“Improved build validation, increased moderation, and the long-awaited switch to libappstream” by @barthalion
Heads up to app developers: Flathub’s automatic build validation is more thorough now, and includes checks for issues we previously would have only flagged manually. There’s a chance that if your app has been passing continuous integration checks previously, it will fail now; here's why, and what to do about it:
Hopefully if we can show @signalapp that there is interest, they will finally claim the #Flatpak (and hopefully the #Arm version from Elagost 1 at the same time)
Check out this shiny new little website covering some of the basics, but the gist: every desktop supports these APIs with a native UI that makes sense to their desktop. But cross-platform apps can just use Portals and their app will work across desktop environments, OSes, etc.
Have you ever wanted to quickly and securely send files between devices? Warp does just that, and does it well! By using the “Magic Wormhole” protocol, you need only copy your transmit code to the other machine, then you can start receiving your documents. Each transmission is encrypted, and if the clients are in the same building, the files will even be sent over the local network!
Do you have one too many Flatpaks installed? Look no further than Warehouse! Scroll through a list of all your installed apps and perform a batch operation to delete some. Alternatively, see their Flatpak properties displayed on a popup or change some filters. Choose to see only apps or runtimes, then toggle the remotes that provide the packages in your list
If you need to test your connection speed, if you want something quick and simple on your desktop, then you should try out Speedtest! Using the LibreSpeed backend, you can choose from one of many regional servers to see how your network fares. Check upload and download speeds, your ping and jitter, to see how fast and how reliable your Wi-Fi is
