“Miliband agreed with the audience member that the climate crisis is an emergency and must be treated as one, but said: “When you block a motorway of people who are trying to get to their relatives who are dying … that isn’t helping your cause.” Do you get motorways full of people trying to get to their dying relatives? #juststopoil#ClimateCrisis
Consumption of tobacco is harmful to health/consumption of oil is harmful to the environment
What applies to the tobacco industry should also apply to the oil industry; citizens must be informed about the consequences of using #gasoline#diesel#fff #EndFossilFuels#juststopoil
John Woodcock, formerly a Labour MP & now a crossbench peer, has prepared a review of “far-left” involvement in disruptive protest, including activism against climate change & war. At the same time, he has been chairing & advising lobby groups representing arms manufacturers & fossil fuel firms.
Woodcock gained his peerage for his part in smearing Corbyn. He resigned from Labour to avoid investigations of sexual assault allegations.
A nasty little grifter.
"Woodcock’s entries in the Lords’ register of interests show he is paid to act as the chair of the Purpose Business Coalition, an organisation run by the PR and lobbying firm Crowne Associates, which counts the oil company BP and the arms company Leonardo among its clients."
"All could theoretically welcome restrictions on protest against their operations. Leonardo, in particular, has been subject to a persistent campaign of protest by Palestine Action"

We are burning to death. We are killing ourselves and our future generations. We're poisoning everything. We're siphoning what little capital is left for the 99 into the pockets of the oligarchs.
Today, retired social worker Trudi Warner is in court.
In March she held up a sign reminding jurors they could decide a verdict according to their conscience and now could face up to two years in prison. #Solidarity#TrudiWarner#ToryRepression#HumanRights#JustStopOil
#ClimateDiary It seems, IS, utterly crazy, that amidst everything else the UK government is ruthlessly continuing its clampdown on climate protesters. But it is.
Excellent article by Natasha Walter here on how Dr Sarah Benn got 30 days in prison for holding up a placard saying “Stop New Oil” and overall recent developments:
“the direction of travel is fast and frightening and its repercussions are growing.”
#ClimateDiary and now Dr Benn has also been found guilty of professional msiconduct, by a Medical Practitioners Tribunal. This is deeply wrong. Holding up a sign and protesting - for planetary, human health! - does not constitute medical misconduct. I hope many #doctors will speak up against this. #NHS#JustStopOil#ExtinctionRebellion
This is well said. It’s only mentioned in passing but one of the worst of the recent developments is the power that corporations now have to bankrupt both organisations and individuals. The space (both literal and metaphorical) for peaceful protest has been reduced so protestors are having to use more extreme methods. #jso#juststopoil
A friend invited me to watch the #ChrisPackham program 'Is It Time To Break The Law?' about taking #DirectAction regarding #ClimateChange. Very thought provoking indeed and I highly recommend watching it.
Whilst the aims of #ExtinctionRebelion and #JustStopOil are most admirable, I feel that it would be more effective if the infrastructure and executives of the organisations responsible for emissions were directly targeted. This list is comprehensive:
Go away and think about it, Paul. There is another way 🤔 🤬
"Paul Greenwood [of Exxon Mobil], told openDemocracy a carbon capture project at its Fawley oil refinery in Hampshire would only meet its target to be operational by 2030 if it receives taxpayer subsidies."
TotalEnergies tried to silence Greenpeace France by intimidating them with court action, requiring the deletion of a report into TotalEnergies' 2019 greenhouse gas emissions.
TotalEnergies claimed their emissions were 455 million tonnes of CO2e. The Greenpeace report estimated actual CO2e emissions of 1,635,648,000 tonnes.
The Paris Judicial Court dismissed the summons, giving Greenpeace France a significant victory for freedom of speech, allowing them to question the extent of the climate impact caused by companies like TotalEnergies.
Remember Phoebe, who was pre-emptively arrested in central London on a trumped up charge of "conspiracy to commit burglary" based on evidence from the Daily Mail?
She's not the only one. This crackdown on protest is getting dark.
The #GeneralMedicalCouncil counsel said Dr Benn's conduct had brought the profession into disrepute because she had broken the law by failing to comply with the injunction against protests at the Kingsbury oil terminal on multiple occasions & her fitness to practise was impaired as her conduct failed to justify patients' trust in the profession.
"Did you know Chevron was found liable for $9.5 billion in damages from decades of dumping toxic oil waste in the Amazon basin? And instead of paying, they spent years persecuting and stripping the rights of Steven Donziger, the lawyer who led the case against them."
