I'm still kinda new to Linux (started using this year 😅) I already made it to my main OS, even if I still missing some things which I used on Windows, anyway. What I wanted to ask you guys, what recommendations do you have for Linux Mint (Cinnamon)? In terms of security, optimization, (a way to make the UI looking modern ;-;) and privacy? I would be very interested in what you do guys to optimize your Linux setup :) I'm pretty technical, so there is nothing which could overwhelm me (probaly).
Je commence à me décourager.
Looking forward to setting up my used #thinkpad with #linuxmint next week. Looking for recos for easy syncing, mainly for my #emacs and #orgmode stuff. What have you used that you could recommend? I do have GDrive working well on my Windows machines, so could go that route,, though not familiar with how to do that on linux. Thanks!
Hi all. I've got an older #computer running #Windows10, and I'm thinking about putting #Linux on it since I've always wanted to try it out and think this computer might run better with Linux. I read a topic on audiogames.net about Linux #accessibility, and I saw a few recommendations for #distros to try out. To any #blind Linux users, is #NixOS a good one for a beginner, or should I try #LinuxMint or #Ubuntu? Also, what's the best way to install Linux and replace #Windows? Thanks. #technology#tech@mastoblind@accessibility@main
In this week's #Linux and #OpenSource news video, we have a plan to add support for HDR and Variable Refresh Rate on Linux, chips from AMD that surpass Apple Silicon, and more dominant position abuse from Microsoft, plus updates on #LinuxMint 21.2, some new #GNOME apps, progress on #KDE Plasma 6, and more!
And also, I'm trying to replace the "walls of scrolling text" with more focused snippets so it's a bit more entertaining to watch! Let me know what you think!
I think I got my #Grandfather so far, that he is willing to install #Linux with me on one of his Machines. I would choose between #KDE Neon and #Linuxmint for him. Or am I completely wrong? What do you think?
P.S.: He is not like the stereotype grandfather who has no idea about tech and conputers, so it must not be the most simple way, but also not the most complicated.
I guess a #debian based distro will be fine...
Oh and no *buntu #distros!
Using #Linux#LinuxMint on my laptop, and so far, can run every single program I had on windows, either directly or via browser, except for one. #Line, the superapp you can't really escape if you live in #Japan (or #Taiwan, or #Thailand).
So #LinuxMint has been my daily driver for the last 4 years (one install & no distro hopping) but now I am very tempted to go directly to #Debian since the LTS support has ended.
Any solid reasons why this might not end well? #Linux
Today's head-scratcher in #linuxmint and #emacs. Hope someone can help me understand this. I've got both W10 and LM installed on my machine. While in LM, using dired in emacs, I can navigate through all of my linux directories. However, the file manager in LM shows a Windows directory, and I can see and access a lot of my W10 files (though not my Documents folder). Why is that? And how can I access all my Windows documents in LM? TIA!
I've encountered a strange issue where #BaldursGate3 is suddenly constantly crashing on my main rig, but working perfectly fine on my #SteamDeck. I'm not using any mods, my rig is more than enough to handle the game on high settings at 1440p, and I'm not having any issues with any other games. I've reinstalled the game several times. I've verified the integrity of the files via steam, I've even reinstalled my OS. Noting works. It still crashes constantly on my main PC. There;s no discernible pattern to the crashes either--in combat, out of combat, standing around in the world, clicking on something, doing an action, character creation...it just crashes after 5-10 minutes every time without fail. My temps are all fine as well, and no other game is giving me these issues....any idea what's up? I'm running the game on a Ryzen 5 2600 with a 6650 XT, 32 GB of ram, and nvme driven and i'm using #LinuxMint 21.3... #GamingOnLinux#RPGs#BG3#GamingOnLinux#RPGs#BG3
The Linux Mint team maintains two key branches of its distribution. Mint's main edition is based on Ubuntu while a second branch, Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE), is based on Debian 'Stable'. The Linux Mint team has published a new development snapshot of LMDE.
Looking for some solid recos for how to use #gparted on #linuxmint on a dual boot machine (Win and LM). I want to expand the linux space but really don't want to screw up the drive(s). Can anyone steer me towards some clear instructions -- video or whatever. I've googled but don't want to just try anything. TIA.
I jumped ship and hopped over to the Linux Mint crowd. I used Pop_OS for ~3 months and it was an overall good experience on my ThinkPad X1 Gen 8.
But I always liked the Cinnamon desktop as I have used Mint for over a year before. And I didn't want to be part of the Rust-based re-invented desktop experience (COSMIC) driven by a company. Ultimately I believe that Linux is and should continue to be a community effort. Also, there were some minor annoyances (like the Pop_OS store eating up 1.2 GB of RAM all the time even when it is not running, an issue System76 is aware of for quite a while). And also, Snap.
If feels good to be back to a trusted distro whose maintainers generally make the right decisions (i.e. removing Snap).
