Glad I switched, fully, to #Linux a few months ago. I'm not a programmer or techie, and struggled with Linux in the past, but compared to a decade ago, the installation was really easy & it the user interface has improved dramatically.
Fediverse, hear my plea. I have an HP Omen 15 and was thinking on switching to #Linux due to the progressive enshittification of windows and the #recall garbage. I know Laptops are tricky. What Distro would you recommend? Would Linux Mint fit the bill? I'm more of a KDE/Cinnamon person that a Gnome person FYI
Taking my new (to me) ThinkPad 450 out for its first stroll. Using it while waiting for the car to be serviced. #linuxmint, #firefox, #emacs, all working like a charm. Keyboard and touchpad are almost perfect, battery life is super long. Screen is a little dim but hey. For under $100US I'm not complaining. This is exactly why I got it and set it up with linux, etc. Oh, also doing some journaling with #orgmode and it seems to be syncing to my home computer with #syncthing. Just about perfect!
@LouisIngenthron I have installed four(?) different distros in the last week, and they all went in fine except vanilla #Debian, which I don't know how I screwed it up, but I did. #Ubuntu, #LinuxMint, and #PopOS were all just as easy as #Windows was once upon a time: click "ok" a bunch until you hit a welcome screen. Notably absent was the requirement that I sign into their exclusive service to even use the software.
I love the fact that when people referring to #Linux distros hear “it just works out of the box” the first thing they think of is #LinuxMint. Say what you will, but this is a huge win for Linux as a whole, because that’s how you bring people over to our side.
I finally got around to installing Linux Mint on the old 2016 HP laptop that was my son's when he was 12 (he's now 20). It runs beautifully. My first time using Linux Mint and it is beautiful. This is my first step in abandoning Windows--so far, I can say it won't be missed.
Spent the day installing #Mint#XFce to an old Acer #laptop of my sister in law's brother (I've converted everyone to #Linux in the family). Acer's firmware was very buggy, so it took tricks to load grub.
Installed them a few apps, and they will be super happy with their new (old) laptop. Previously, #Windows 10 was dying on that laptop, it was that slow, as it was swapping furiously! Mint loaded in about 1 minute, which is good (considering the very slow hdd).
I'm not a "Linux Guy" really but I started re-evaluating it lately, and I think it might not just be for the Tech Weirdos anymore. It can absolutely be a daily driver for a lot of game developers now!
Ich nutze #LinuxMint#LMDE6
Gestern hat mein Laptop nicht mehr reagiert.
Nun startet er nicht mehr.

Matrix certrainly has its rough edges, but I find it awesome that pretty much every major Linux community now has their dedicated space. All federated, of course.
@iamdtms@angedestenebres ironically when i click on that screenshot and it pops out in firefox everynow and then the whole screen flashes, only time it does it. anyone else seeing this?
Currently deciding which #Linux distro to install besides #Windows on my laptop. I want to switch back to Linux for #programming (had to switch to Windows for work). I have used #Ubuntu and #LinuxMint in the past. Any suggestions?
