The PWA for Keizai1 was released yesterday. I am still a newbie to the world of PWA's, but so far, I am really enjoying it 😃 It is so good when you can't create a native app of your own.
The #Mastodon web interface, used as a #PWA on #Android, is far better than many of the apps I've tried. Its notification system is far more effective than the official app.
I think I'll perform some more tests in the next few days.
Today I tried several 3rd party clients on iOS and MacOS: #Mammoth #Tusker #IceCubes #Metatext
But most likely I will stick with #PWA version of Mastodon. It doesn't need any updates and has all recent features.
It's unfortunate how installing a #PWA removes the reload and back buttons, especially on #mobile where you can't right click for a context menu, or use a keyboard shortcut.
Maybe the OS level back button, and pull-to-refresh suffice most of the time but I still find myself needing the browser toolbar pretty often.
Are PWAs run through the other extensions on the browser? For example, if I used the Youtube PWA, would uBlock filter out the ads? Or is that explicitly on a regular website?
I'm re-learning #WordPress and #PWA for creating my own #fediverse app.
As I understand it, PWA is not a library or framework, but rather a set of regulations required for a website to deliver a user experience that is like a native app.
Various people have already come up with recipes for the functional elements that make a PWA a reality, and some should have tutorials available here.
Rather than using a huge ready-made framework, it might be better to experience a good tutorial with the goal of creating a minimum configuration.
I was just prompted that a PWA was available for kbin. I now have it installed, really great to see this. IMO it is a great stopgap until native apps are available.
Can we make a global effort to kill version hell once and for all?
I want a world where you create software with zero maintenance. Only updates are caused by new insights on how to improve the user experience.
Perhaps the web-app (#PWA) can deliver on this dream. But I'm weary that browsers will also keep updating API's so a web-app created today won't run 10 years later.
I love what @ernest has built and I'm amazed at the amount of work he is able to put in kbin.
I've seen a couple of questions about third-party apps for kbin, and while that would be nice in the future, I think the mobile version of the site works pretty well.
I was wondering if there are plans to make the web version an installable progressive web app (pwa)?
With third party browser support for Add to homescreen, is #PWA on iOS ahead of Android? WebAPK is still Chrome-only so most Android browsers have limited PWA support.
If someone's added a web app to their iOS home screen, does anyone know a way to send that person a link which opens in that installed web app, rather than in a browser tab?

⎧ Web apps look and function pretty much like the conventional apps for your phone or computer, but they clog less space on your device and are less pushy about surveilling you. People who make web apps also say they are easier to create and update than conventional apps... But web apps have been around for years, and most people don't know they exist... ⎭
