Excellent performance from our #SolarPanels the last couple of days. Has powered most of our household usage, and despite a couple of short trips the #ElectricVehicle has gone from 60 to 88% charge. Exported a few kWh too.

Not going to lie, I'm skeptical. Very skeptical. But there is a chance CO2 emissions will have peaked in 2023.

"We find there is a 70% chance that emissions start falling in 2024 if current clean technology growth trends continue and some progress is made to cut non-CO2 emissions."

Regardless of if it actually happens, it is important to recognize the progress we are making, which are more rapid than most realize and many predicted. There is hope.

Unfortunately "green" energy isn't that green as we hope it would be.

Have a look at this for example:

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/335083312_Why_do_we_burn_coal_and_trees_to_make_solar_panels

An inherent part of the production of is the use of (and other sources of Carbon, like woodchips) to reduce the source material (Silicon Oxide) into pure Silicon, thereby emitting, you guessed it right, huge amounts of !

According to this chemical formula:

Si02 + 2C => Si + 2CO

Interesting article about the rate of solar panel installation across Britain: https://www.pv-magazine.com/2024/04/08/uk-records-189000-new-solar-installations-for-2023/
There are reasons why Scotland and Wales are both installing panels faster than England

Solar panels have become so cheap that they are being used to build garden fences in the Netherlands and Germany, as a boom in Chinese production saturates the global market.

A quick disclaimer, we installed the powerwalls several years ago, before I realised what an utter knob Musk is.

Having said that, it pleases me that even on a dreary day like today, we’re saving some energy.

A view of the local mountains showing how grey and dreary it is, still a stunning view, but cloudy and dull. These are mountains of the Wasatch Front in Utah, still coated in new snow.

The 11 per cent achieved in the latest tests is far greater than the efficiency levels of around one or two per cent that printed flexible solar panels currently offer.

How Came to Dominate the World in Energy
unleashed the full might of its solar energy industry last year. It installed more than the has in its history. It cut the wholesale price of panels it sells by nearly half. And its exports of fully assembled solar panels climbed 38 percent while its exports of key components almost doubled. Get ready for an even bigger display of China's solar dominance.

One of these is harvesting maximum solar energy and one isn't doing a thing. I didn't clean either.
This was an open question: how well would the tracking panels shed snow? The second photo is of solar hot water panels on the roof where I’d been considering putting solar panels, which would have been at the roof's angle, not tilted up like this. Just remembering how long it took for snow to clear off (and what a pain to climb on the roof to clear by hand) made me think twice about putting solar up there.

I know days are getting longer, but it is still pretty crazy that after the big snowstorm we logged our highest kWh produced since the system went on line the first of the year.

I was hoping for advice /help please ,I am not at all clear about 5g and other off grid internet options.I had 4g my last place it seemed to use very little power ,but had to be ended when the forestry blocked the signal. Here we have highland wifi ,but my daughters getting starlink which I refuse to use ,EVER .I will carry on paying for highland wifi ,but need something portable for use in a tent/caravan at the off grid site below soon

Instead should look into investing more in , which any one in the field will agree, is much cleaner and much more sustainable in the long run, compared to the alternatives we have available. The only caveat of it being . Even that has standard solutions in the industry.

But I am curious if my usage is much higher or much lower than the average household. 🤔
