I’ve been warming up to switching to GrapheneOS for months. Last month I bought a Pixel 8 (which is the buggiest effing phone I’ve ever owned, good job Google). I’ve just been waiting to have the bandwidth....
@Tutanota I believe every website that uses #trackers to provide #pii to feed the #adtech beast should provide its visitors with such simple tutorial videos. An important first step in getting people to start understanding the 'cost' they pay for that wonderful, free to use online #software
#DuurzameBank#WarOnCash
A few days ago we found out about Amigo. A sampler made by PotenzaDSP and Stekker that emulates the #Amiga samplers from the 80s. It is
cheap and very good. You can pick it up here: https://potenzadsp.com/amigo/
FYI: We started with these kind of tools in the 80s! #trackers#scene
So, I've noticed that the Dark Reader #extension on #Firefox mobile (android) allows me to bypass #paywalls on many news sites. It appears to work on #NYT, #WaPo, and others. I don't understand why it happens, but it was a pleasant discovery!
imo, as a non-tech person, I think it has to do with #trackers in article #images? There are no images if you use Dark Reader, and in my #browser, when I use a #Javascript blocker, it blurs images and bypasses most paywalls 🤷🏻♀️
#StoneAge inhabitants of #Namibia were so adept at depicting human and animal footprints that modern-day #Indigenous#trackers can exactly identify species, age and sex of the animals depicted in these #carvings:
I believe this is a pretty new feature within Kagi Search. You can click on the yellow/orange shield with the exclamation mark in it and you get the popup that you see here.
This popup tells you just how many ads and trackers that specific site uses as well as what category of ads and trackers it uses.
This is one of the neatest things I've seen Kagi Search add so far.
I don't use an #AdBlocker. I haven't used an ad blocker in a decade or more. I see plenty of ads on the web. What I do is block third-party #cookies and known cross-site #trackers. The number of sites (even apparently legitimate sites) that implore me to disable my ad blocker is disappointing.
Oh 😱! While looking at other Mastodon servers, something I do as I've a curious mind, I found one that according to DDG there are Cloud flare and Google Ads tracking requests that it blocked.
I absolutely did not expect to find that. I know the instance I belong to comes up clean on DDG with zero tracking, and I'm so happy about that.
Lesson for me today, don't just assume that because you are in the #fediverse that every instance is tracker free. #trackers#OnlinePrivacy
I have been a fan of @protonvpn for several years now, & use the #VPN regularly when I am on WiFi that isn’t my own. At some point months (a year?) ago, they introduced a “NetShield” function that can block #malware, #ads, and #trackers. It is remarkable, when activated and running … to then go back & look at few hours later. I don’t consider myself freakishly paranoid about online tracking, etc., but still 🫣🤯
Android’s Find My Device network settings FINALLY start going live for some users
Nearly a year ago at Google I/O, the new “Find My Device” network for trackers was announced for Android, but then delayed indefinitely for the benefit of iPhone users. Now, finally, the network is starting to roll out – sort of.
I'm deGoogling. What's my new Podcast app?

Proton Pass app just landed in F-Droid (lemmy.ml)
Refreshing the main F-Droid repository shows it as new. Can’t find it on the website yet. Nice for Proton users to have it on F-Droid.
