#KDE upgrade not going well... Not sure if the issue is #Wayland or #KDE itself, but I lost my custom keyboard shortcuts, Flameshot doesn't seem to work anymore, software-properties-qt doesn't accept my root password...
It used to be the case that I searched for and used #free (as in beer) #software over paid ones. 'Cause I was poor and/or didn't want to pay.
Now I search for and use #FOSS (as in beer and speech) over paid/proprietary software. 'Cause I value those principles more.
But it seems in future I'll need to start searching for and using AI-free FOSS over FOSS that uses #AI. 'Cause apparently even FOSS projects are selling out to AI now... 🙁
@kreynen Ah, no sorry. I was referring specifically to projects that fork from another with the intent to take development in a different direction, continue to maintain a project after it becomes un-maintained by the original dev(s), etc. Basically projects with their own releases.
That is IT. FUCK GOOGLE. If you’re not going to provide technical support with a real live person then fuck you I’m going somewhere else. I’ve had this account for over a decade and now I can’t get into it on my new phone because YOUR STUFF IS BROKEN. And there’s no way to contact a real person in real time for help with any of the products!!
I’m so mad and I’m so frustrated with this whole phone upgrade. So fuck Apple too.
Particularly the "autohide_bookmarks_toolbar.css" one. Not only is it good for #minimalism, but also has the added #privacy benefit of not showing your personal bookmarks to anyone looking over your shoulder, or in screenshots that need to show the URL.
I've been lately thinking about ditching #Spotify for a more #privacy friendly alternative. I even considered going back to buying CDs and ripping them onto my computer at one point.
Then I discovered #RiMusic, and I'm finding it pretty good. I like that I don't need an account. The only downside is there's no desktop option...
So looking for recommendations for a way to play/stream music that's #FOSS, not self-hosted, and can be used on #Android and #Linux desktop.
What is it with people posting the exact same thing over and over again?
I follow the #privacy hashtag, and there seem to be multiple people/accounts spamming it with the same post. Sometimes repeated weekly, sometimes daily...
Is this considered normal and I should stop whinging and just block them?
@Em0nM4stodon The more I use it and learn about all the things it can do, and the more I see results from using it daily, the more I love #uBlockOrigin!
Is it possible to setup contextual #keybindings in #Linux such that, say, Ctrl-Shift-T will open a new instance of my terminal while I'm in a terminal, but won't do anything (or will do something entirely different) when I'm in another app?
@deshipu Thanks! I was asking a generic question (as I think contextual keybindings in general would be cool), but yes, the purpose of my question was to use Ctrl-Shift-T to open a new instance of Alacritty (since it doesn't support tabs). And it has keybindings though, and that worked!
Just tried #Piped for #Youtube and I found it slower than molasses. Tried creating my account and uploading my subscriptions. Worked for about 10 minutes and then wouldn't load anything.
Am I doing something wrong or am I getting a front-row seat for the deadly dance between YouTube and other front-ends?
The site can either explain what they're doing in an easy-to-understand way, or not. I think the fact that they made a kid-friendly video about it is great. Now that many more kids/parents have an awareness of this (whether or not they agree with it) than otherwise would have. More awareness of privacy-related issues can only be a good thing IMO.
@stpaultim Yes, I also found this #module very helpful for my #Backdrop blog. I liked being able to see all of the options for a reference field upfront, rather than risk creating duplicates.
