@mcc yeah they exist, I remember them being advertised in SkyMall back in the day. Luckily not a problem I have but a quick DDG of "shoes for short men" shows several offerings of "elevator" shoes and insoles.

Just memorize your social anxiety away!

Why did I get to age 40 not knowing that most of my crippling social anxiety could be cured by simply making flash cards of the faces of all the people I need to interact with at work or at other events and simply memorizing all their names?

This probably won’t for everyone but it’s shocking effective it has been for me. And it’s not like I’m particularly bad with names when learning them “naturally” (although I’m slower than average) 1/

@futurebird neat tip, thanks for sharing!

Obviously this is super price prohibitive now, and doesn't work super great, but man I would love to have this when repairing something, or even just on a long walk. I wonder if in 20 years instead of a phone you have a tiny robot that helps you get through the day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djzOBZUFzTw

    Did I make a mistake in creating an account on the mstdn.ca server? My home feed on the app has been "offline" for weeks now. Any suggestions on a better server?

    Neblib,
    @Neblib@mastodo.neoliber.al avatar

    @TomBabin not sure pros/cons about mstdn.ca but even on a larger instance you'll want to follow some hashtags and existing friends (which it looks like you've done). Looking at who also boosts and favorites a post is a great way to find new people, and are following bots like @popularposts (boosts the trending posts visible to its instance) and following active fediverse curators like @lisamelton .

    Pedestrians, it should be our right to be distracted. It should be our right to walk and listen to music / look at the sky / cute dogs / snowflakes and not worry about getting killed. Nothing about that is dangerous except for CARS. Don't let them make you believe you are the problem.

    Neblib,
    @Neblib@mastodo.neoliber.al avatar

    @mbonsma infrastructure that made car drivers feel the need to pay more attention (slimer lanes, more pedestrain safety barriers near intersections, etc) are the answer. Our road design was created by humans and can be changed by humans, we just need to value people over level of (car) service.

    Neblib,
    @Neblib@mastodo.neoliber.al avatar

    @mlanger I think that NWS accuracy is a good point, and a good reason to use it when you need it. 10 days can be accurate enough (ex for is it going to be in a general temp range, precipitation that day) esp. for use cases like planning a long trip. The main point I was focused on though is for general purposes getting it all concisely (instead of many centered far from me maps and 10 charts to get the same data) might be why people goto "inaccurate" non-primary source but better UX apps first.

    Neblib,
    @Neblib@mastodo.neoliber.al avatar

    @mlanger @ai6yr @douglasvb better combinatory data display on other apps? Dark Sky was amazing before Apple ate it, and even their inclusion if the extra sources and libraries still hasnt made Apple Weather at the same level. Wundeground's 10 day has no equivalent I could ever find on a gov site. Windy doesn't really have an equivalent either.

    @MartinBe @organicmaps https://www.howtogeek.com/725241/how-to-download-your-google-maps-data/ has some instructions on exporting your gmaps data to a format you can import, Google even allows doing so on a schedule. While OM will likely not support a more direct import (as that'd require GMaps API fees), I agree it'd be helpful to add some instructions / links in the FAQ. Maybe open a ticket?

    jordinn, to random

    We're late for some interrogation of what centrism actually is, what it shows up for, what its aims are.

    Centrism's self-identifiers wield a facade of 'norm-at-neutral' that claims reasonableness, obviousness, and above all, lack of culpability (and underlying lack of agency).

    This is, quite likely, bullshit.

    Neblib,
    @Neblib@mastodo.neoliber.al avatar

    @jordinn I think the problem in your understanding of the centrist viewpoint is that your definition of far left goals doesn't acknowledge people who think that Mao and Stalin were great dudes and think that following fascists in science-denying, ethnic minority hatred, and anti-press actions are also considered far left. Supporting genocide of Uyghur people is equal moral evil as supporting genocide of Jewish people. That's where the "can't see the difference" comes from.
