Elon Musk:

  1. Directly funds those who share child sexual abuse material on Twitter/X, refusing to suspend their accounts
  2. Directly promoted the child sexual abuse accounts by allowing them to buy Twitter Blue/X Pro to amplify their evil content
  3. Promises that soon you will not be able to block the accounts that share this poison
It is past time to hold this dangerous predator and his enablers accountable.

You know what Nazis used to do in my Twitter replies before I started mass blocking?

They'd give my home address out to OTHER Nazis in my replies who had expressed an interest in murdering my family and me.

This week Biden forgave federal student debt for 804,000 borrowers. A judge upheld the decision—proving yet again that Biden has authority to cancel student debt.

Furthermore—if we can bail out Wall Street with $10T & cancel $2.1T in billionaire taxes & cancel $800B in PPP loans—then we can cancel $1.7T in predatory student loans.

We've bailed out corporations and billionaires long enough. Let's elevate working people.

Our third and final bit of Follow Up, on the @motoringpodcast News Show is Listener Feedback.

We share info on a free petrol price comparison app (but do check the T&Cs before using to ensure you are happy to share whatever info they are requesting).

And secondly, experience of traffic lights changing depending on if one is speeding or not. Nice to hear they are as good as we presumed.

Musk brought Nazi accounts back, & makes $ money by verifying them, boosting them to Twitter users, & airing major advertisers next to their Nazi content.

“Your ads will only air next to content that is appropriate for you” - Twitter CEO Yaccarino, last wk.

This wk: 2 doz companies paid Musk for ads next to pro-Hitler content: Adobe, Amazon, Office Depot, Samsung, MLB, Atlanta Falcons, Women's World Cup, Fortune, Gallup, SI, USA Today

In addition to human content moderation reviewers that monitor for content that violates the platform’s rules, X says it has automated software that determines where and how ads are placed on the platform. “Your ads will only air next to content that is appropriate for you,” Yaccarino said during last week’s interview.
Ads have also appeared next to content from the accounts of extremists that have been restored under Musk. New American Union is a pro-fascist account that celebrates Hitler and his National Socialist Party (aka the Nazi Party). It's been “verified since April 2023" and has thousands of followers, meaning that the account meets atfiast two of the criteria for X's revenue sharing program — and that money from X's advertisers could eventually end up in the account’s pockets. The following are several representative posts from the account promoting Nazism:
Update (8/16/23, 1:45 p.m.): Following the publication of this article, X suspended the openly pro-Hitler account. The suspension came only after the company verified the account; allowed it to repeatedly post antisemitic content; and monetized it by placing advertisements for major brands on the account. X's monetization of the account also happened even though the company had reportedly acknowledged that the antisemitic account engaged in “violent speech.” Under the leadership of CEO Linda Yaccarino, X (formerly known as Twitter) has been placing ads for brands like The New York Times Co.'s The Athletic, MLB, the Atlanta Falcons, Sports Illustrated, USA Today, Amazon, and Office Depot on a verified pro-Adolf Hitler account that encourages antisemitic harassment. The company continues to monetize the openI\i antisemitic account despite reportedly acknowledging it had violated the platform’s “rules against violent speech.” During an August 10 interview with CNBC, Yaccarino falsely claimed that brands are “protected from the risk of being next to” toxic content and “by all objective metrics, X is a much healthier and safer platform than it was ayear ago.” Media Matters and other observers have documented how X has remained a dangerous cesspool of content, especially for advertisers. Since Elon Musk took over the company, X has placed ads for numerous brands directly on Holocaust denial, white nationalist, and neo- Nazi accounts. Ads have also appeared next to content

Since I'm on a subtooting spree this morning, let's keep going.

A weird take I saw the other day was people blaming urbanization for high housing prices.

    And,

    Okay,

Urban living is incredibly efficient in terms of provision of services (healthcare, housing transportation, education, power, water, sewage, etc.), energy usage, and carbon footprint. Suburbanization and sprawl are major drivers of global warming.

    tess,
    @tess@mastodon.social avatar

Low-density development is not sustainable. Our suburbs are built on tax breaks and initial sales windfalls and then left to rot because they do not generate enough tax revenue to maintain their own infrastructure.

They are cheaper in part because nobody* wants to live there, and because building standards are much lower (and it's easier to use easily-exploitable migrant labor to build them).

    • Relatively speaking, of course; I will inevitably get "but I love my exurban mcmansion!" replies.

This is Michigan's first year participating in a multi-state brood survey.

The survey, conducted from July 1 - August 31 each year, can provide valuable information on turkey populations in Michigan. This survey's use and value is dependent on having as many observations reported as possible.
