And for the non musicians that see this, please consider discontinuing your use of Spotify. It's incredibly exploitative to the musicians whose music you're enjoying (unless you're only listening to the most popular acts on the service).

Honestly, even piracy is better for most musicians: at least that's not enriching someone else at their expense.

Spend your money on music as close to the source as possible. The Internet makes it possible to put money directly in most musicians' pockets.

So, Spotify is laying off 1500 people AND not paying ANYTHING for 2/3 of the music on their platform, but hey, they finally showed a profit of $35 million on $3.57 BILLION in revenue!

I'm not trying to shame anyone, but if you feel a need to use Spotify, at least download the extension that lets you use premium for free as a fuck you back at the company.

Better yet, directly support the artists who make the music that you care about.

Reasons for music fans to follow me:

  1. I am mutuals with a HUGE number of musicians, and I promote the fuck out of them, so you'll be exposed to lots of new music

  2. I write about at least a half dozen of these artists every month, giving you some insight into what they make and why you might like it

It's babies! As usual, I'm asking music fans to consider spending AT LEAST as much on independent artists today as they spend on their monthly music streaming subscriptions. Most of that money goes to Spotify (or whoever) and the top 1% of artists on the platforms, leaving the majority of artists fighting for scraps.

Spending $10-20 thru , or simply sending them some money via or will have a FAR greater impact than giving it to Spotify.

My new release is Metaphysical Shitposting. It's an album of looser, weirder and more --but still relatively easy to listen to-- pieces. I'm releasing new tracks for it as I finish them; I work on new tracks for it when I get frustrated, stuck or bored with working on the more intricately produced tracks for my next release. It's one of my two favorite tracks from the album but it's got waaay too few streams (it's near the end of the album, so a lot of folks don't make it that far).

If you've found my work a bit too dense/intense/chaotic for your taste, it's worth a listen; it's very chill and atmospheric.
