For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.

From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.

Copilot+ Recall has been enabled by default globally in Microsoft Intune managed users, for businesses.

You need to enable DisableAIDataAnalysis to switch it off. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/client-management/manage-recall

Today marks a special day. The last day 😭 of the N86 office location, long time known for here in Munich.

This is where extraordinary people crafted software, formed bonds that go far beyond work, fun times were had, challenges overcome.

I'll kiss these holy walls a final time.

Goodbye NY86. Hello SAP Labs Munich, out there in Garching. Taking the challenge and will ride by bike, 30km one way, with a stop at the calisthenics park 🔥

So far, my netbsd research goes well on my RPI4.

  • I can run firefox (with a small fix to avoid tab crash)
  • I can view/edit documents with Libreoffice
  • I can listen music with mplayer/VLC
  • I can play videos with mplayer/VLC
  • mdns works fine (i use a lot in my home network)
  • i can use ZFS (with the ARC memory patch i dont have any issues with 4GB)

i tried to put all of this on this busy screenshot, with a freshly compiled nscde environment.

We've seen an uptake in accounts using the term OSINT, in some cases to boost poor analysis. This can be confusing for those looking for considered and objective research in their feed. I'm always amazed how some bugs can remain unknown for such a long time. It just took me 12 years to figure out that I got the order of matrix multiplication in OGR PDF vector reading wrong... (for my own defense the PDF spec is 1310 page long). Now fixed per https://github.com/OSGeo/gdal/pull/9874

Anyways, stumbled on a blog post about FreeBSD (I boosted earlier from @discoverbsd and went down a rabbit hole reading this entire blog. I admire the dedication of individuals that put this much love into their blog and website.

Reminds me of the old days of Web 1.0.

Morning everyone. Overslept, and the oversleeping period was a very unpleasant dream. Ugh. I don't feel any less tired either for that.

Listening on random to a big general playlist of soul and funk songs because I don't know what I might want to listen to more specifically. The song on right now as I write this is Time Is Tight by Booker T & the MGs, so you can enjoy that with me. https://youtu.be/50xx1_CbJTI

@TheBreadmonkey Colonel Cropper and Duck Dunn were part of the MGs when they made Time Is Tight, so it was very much their work when they played it in the Blues Brothers.

The corpse flower at the US Botanical Garden is in bloom! It'll be open for another day or two, so come on by to see it!

It'll wilt at some point and stop smelling as pungently in the near future, so timing is important.

Some ad network has served me some ads for a website that sells Space Age/Atomic themed bowling shirts and button downs.

They're expensive, and a cursory google indicates that they're a drop shipping operation, reselling low quality sweatshop clothing.

I don't want low quality sweatshop clothing resold at a premium by a dropshipper, but I would wear the hell out of these clothes.

Any suggestions as to a reputable place to find goofy atomic age looking shit like this?

Recent changes in pkgsrc broke many packages 😭.

I took it upon myself to fix the mess, and ended up falling down a rabbit hole of ncurses support, with cruft going back 25 years.

I've proposed a bunch of fixes, including merging the ncurses and ncursesw packages, as well as making the ncursesw API the default (similar to what FreeBSD and others have done).

Interested to hear of potential issues, especially with older software. Will be testing it thoroughly!
