Waternet - the Dutch company the manages the water infrastructure and collects the bills of customers like me, is going bankrupt because of failed IT projects.

I heard they used SAFe and went all in on Scrum, and managed to completely balls it up.

Another project to add to the chapter "Why your utility bills are so high" (if I ever get around to it)

They even admit it all here as part of their "digital transformation"

Sitting at my desk just now tidying up and outside I see a woman runner, totally decked out, Air Pods, Nikes, fancy long distance running vest, stop in mid stride and suddenly look down, then look around, then down again. I’m thinking is she okay? Did she hurt her leg or something? I start to stand up as she basically collapses to the sidewalk on her knees, and I realize she’s TAKING A PHOTO OF A SNAIL.

I mean I don’t know her but she is clearly a quality individual with excellent priorities.

My life advice? Don't watch movie trailers, don't read reviews and don't do research on a film before you see it. Be open to being surprised, offended and delighted. Yes, you will stumble upon something that may make you uncomfortable. It's worth the risk. If you can't handle it, turn it off or walk out. You won't be irrevocably harmed by the exposure. Your perception might be altered somewhat, but that's a desirable effect. Be receptive to transformation.

For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.

From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.

Copilot+ Recall has been enabled by default globally in Microsoft Intune managed users, for businesses.

You need to enable DisableAIDataAnalysis to switch it off. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/client-management/manage-recall

Here comes a thread on light pollution from satellites, with a concrete action that you all can take to help push for regulation of satellites in orbit!

Astronomers have been worried about light pollution from satellites (if you've been following me for more than 24 hours, you've perhaps heard a bit about this). Astronomers spent SO much time and effort begging and pleading with Starlink to make their satellites fainter, with mixed results.

Last reminder from me: the FCC is taking comments on their new rule allowing freaking huge direct-to-cell satellites until tomorrow. Instructions to submit your own comment are posted here: https://www.kesslerrebellion.com/take-action

Again, I have no idea if this will help. But I do know that the people who pay attention to FCC filings and write about them have noticed! There are now almost 200 submitted comments!! (The last comment period for Starlink had like 25). This is awesome, thank you all so much!

Today marks a special day. The last day 😭 of the N86 office location, long time known for #SAP #hybris here in Munich.

This is where extraordinary people crafted software, formed bonds that go far beyond work, fun times were had, challenges overcome.

I'll kiss these holy walls a final time.

Goodbye NY86. Hello SAP Labs Munich, out there in Garching. Taking the challenge and will ride by bike, 30km one way, with a stop at the calisthenics park 🔥

So far, my netbsd research goes well on my RPI4.

  • I can run firefox (with a small fix to avoid tab crash)
  • I can view/edit documents with Libreoffice
  • I can listen music with mplayer/VLC
  • I can play videos with mplayer/VLC
  • mdns works fine (i use a lot in my home network)
  • i can use ZFS (with the ARC memory patch i dont have any issues with 4GB)

i tried to put all of this on this busy screenshot, with a freshly compiled nscde environment.
