You have every right to use your vote as you wish. Just don't be a fucking coward and deny the effects it will have.
Heck, you can support n*zis and claim you interpret it as an artistic act in favor of German culture. But everyone will still know exactly what you are.
Probably no news organization has more resources to do its job right than the New York Times.
The Times (and other orgs for that matter) should have a standing policy to flag ANY story mentioning serial troll Rufo -- before it's published -- and either remove his tendentious BS or provide context for his trolling.
I'm talking here about the sleazy story the Times published about NPR's CEO (a friend), which did neither.
It's plain old journalistic malpractice. And it's common.
really upsetting to see former Wikimedia Foundation director and CEO Katherine Maher getting targeted by the rightwing outrage machine in her new role as NPR CEO. she's wonderful, and NPR is lucky to have her. i hope they stand behind her.
As someone who covers manufactured outrage campaigns for a living, journalists desperately need to learn how to properly cover these campaigns.
These grafs in NYT don’t give nearly enough context to who Chris Rufo is, or his agenda/track record. Quoting ppl like Rufo as neutral/honest actors is a huge mistake not only bc it launders their abusive, ideologically driven campaigns to mainstream liberals, but also bc it leaves readers less informed abt the motivations behind these attacks.
I have parted ways with the New York Times, quite some time ago.
People should go read the Dan Froomkin @froomkin story about Sulzberger's recent speech, where he basically says that their policy is "trigger the libs, but call it 'Independent journalism'".
Break is over in courtroom. I've caught you up on most everything in previous toots, so go to my feed for details.
Press:
Prosecutor: Michael Cohen accepted responsibility. So we should be allowed to bring that out on direct and that he lied on Defendant's behest. That changed, when Michael Cohen decided to accept responsibility. So evidence about the plea is essential
Hilarious! Steve Deace is such an idiot he doesn’t understand that Trump isn’t running away from the abortion issue, he’s just lying to get some favorable media coverage. (And it’s working.)
“Allen #Weisselberg, the former chief financial officer of the #Trump Org, is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to two counts of perjury last month in his testimony during Trump’s civil fraud trial.
He is utterly wrong. But I stopped bothering to correct NPR misconceptions a while back, so I'm not going to go into to much detail, but in brief: He lost the fight against ignorance and fear. It sucks, but he shouldn't get confused about it.
It's not an investment company, it's a money laundering + political influence scheme. I'm tired of watching reporters fail again and again to understand Trump Org.
I readily admit - I have a prejudice against hockey teams that are located in warm/southern states/towns. It feels entirely wrong. I don’t even want to acknowledge their existence.
"Just asking questions" is a weapon. We know full-well that some people exploit it to feign innocence when deliberately throwing noise into discussions. And it works in large part because it encourages otherwise earnest discussions which then contribute to the noise.
You can reply with "Aside, sirrah, I have no time for your petty cavilling". And put your hand on the pommel of your sword, to indicate that you are serious.
