some days you think burnout is pretty much fully in your rear view mirror, and some days you're just chatting about something work related and it unexpectedly hits you in the feels like a ton of bricks and you realise the burnout was never really gone.

if I can offer one piece of advice, it's to avoid burnout at all costs. if you even suspect you might be headed that way, take action now, before it gets bad. seven years down the line and I'm still dealing with the repurcussions.

Fact:posts here on the Fediverse are like little snowballs at the top of an avalanche-prone hill. Some of them only roll a few feet and do nothing. Others run 5-10 feet and get bigger. And then there are the ones that keep on gathering snow for hundreds of feet and eventually trigger an avalanche (in Fediverse terms, usually takes a week). πŸ€”

I've been hunting for this specific typeface/font for ages, but can never find it. It was used for cinema light box/marquees in the UK in the 1960s-1980s. It's close to some of the usual suspects (Gill Sans, Human521, Futura, DIN, Century, etc ), but no cigar. Any ideas?

In the annals of we-are-all-connected....

Each year, on average 27.7 million tons of Saharan dust, carried on wind currents across the Atlantic, drop into Amazonia, bringing vital phosphorus from the BodΓ©lΓ© Depression in Chad, an ancient lake bed. Amazonia's plant life needs this transoceanic fertilization. https://www.nasa.gov/centers-and-facilities/goddard/nasa-satellite-reveals-how-much-saharan-dust-feeds-amazons-plants/

Also, I'm looking at xcube as a way of generating data cubes using STAC - is this a sensible approach?

UAV [aka β€˜Drone’] Surveying At The UK’s Ordnance Survey [podcast]

https://thegeomob.com/podcast/episode-234 <-- GeoMob podcast link

https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/blog/how-surveying-is-taking-off-at-ordnance-survey <-- blog post on OS UAV use

H/T Doug Newcomb
[A general focus but very interesting and informative]
β€œJames Morrison, head pilot and UAS ("Unmanned Aircraft System") lead at Ordnance Survey, discusses the use of drones in mapping and surveying. He shares examples of how drones were used to quickly assess landslips and update mapping in the Isle of Wight, as well as capture data for residential housing developments. James explains the different types of drones used by Ordnance Survey and their capabilities, including capturing imagery with centimeter-level accuracy…”

@OS

photo - drone
map - OS MasterMap example
photo - OS used a fixed-wing drone to fly over the coal pile on an automated flight route. A series of images were taken with the drone at precise locations across the coal which were then fed into software that β€˜stitched’ them into a 3D β€˜digital twin’ of the coal pile, using a process called photogrammetry.

Since people often ask me how I create , I thought I might create a free email course.

Do you have a better feel than me for parts of the UK outside Yorkshire? If so, please help improve our open source layout of future UK constituencies.
