Spotify take the prize for absurd corporate greed. They raise subscription prices and declare that tracks with less than 1,000 streams a year get NOTHING. This is a significant loss to people like me who have over 200 tracks online, but not all get a large audience. They still deserve to earn.

I've been watching a few social networks and two of them are getting to be 95% repetitive smarmy political content on one side. Whether I agree or disagree with it, MASTODON is the only place I ca count on seeing at least 50% of the posts that are of some interest, and plenty of these are very interesting.
The repeats of the same old shit are rare. The filters handle the rest.

A little while ago, I saw someone call another person stupid here on Mastodon.

We all need to be aware of one simple fact:

What you type in here says more about YOU than the person you are addressing.

Calling someone "stupid" or some other contrived insult is not a good look. It makes you look worse than stupid.

It's been almost 30 years since I went into the studio with musicians from Tower of Power and Herbie Hanckock's Montster Band and Tom Waits to record the 12 tracks that make up "To Love". It was recorded in California and two tracks in Paris. All the horns and most of the piano and organ parts are played on my guitar synthesizer.

Since @seggito just brought up John Lee Hooker, who I backed up (on piano one night!) and in a band who opened for him, I'd like to say this to musicians of all genres:

John Lee was a magician, he cast a musical spell, undeniably. But he had no "chops", he just played. Virtuosity is not necessarily musicality. JL and guys like Albert King made music with limited resources, but, it is great music.
Don't try so hard to play fast. Just PLAY.

Please be careful about what you believe on any network and that includes the fediverse. Plenty of good intentioned folks will post or boost posts about scientific studies, laws, news WITHOUT CHECKING the source or original document. Some things are nuanced and resharing without knowing does not serve the commonwealth, it just blurs the issues.

When you talk about #Instagram here on Mastodon (or anywhere in the fediverse) have you actually spent much time on Instagram? Because #Pixelfed is only like Instagram in the most basic sense. Instagram is mostly populated with people selling products, services or themselves. Instagram is like a tame version of #TikTok. If federated platforms begin to look like these places I personally will drop them.

.My mother and her 3 siblings wrote each other letters. My uncle wrote letters in carbon copies to his brother and two sisters from Korea, during that "conflict".

Most everyone has email of some kind? It would be healthier if folks assembled family & friends mailing lists and get off #messenger, #facebook, #instagram where exposing your info and kid's photos to the world is not a good thing.
Advantage: you aren't exposed to the sewer line of misinformation.
