Know your teen slang: “rizz” is short for “reasonable,” used to underscore the younger generation’s reverence for practicality. Someone with “serious rizz” is highly valued for their common sense and probity.

Honest question for white people that don't consider themselves racist:

White nationalists have been vocal about their attacks on DEI. These are literally the same people that talk about Charlottesville, Jan 6th, and ethnic cleansing.

They've laid out exactly how they plan to destroy DEI.

  1. Make false claims that DEI is about giving unqualified Black people an unfair advantage

  2. Work with racist politicians to use this as a pretext to make all DEI programs illegal.

Right, I’m back to focussing on Domain* now that another round of dev is complete on Kitten** and, two years after I originally asked the question: does anyone know of a comparable service to Hetzner Cloud (API, affordable, very quick server setup, VPS) that supports CoreOS?

I still can’t find any. And my attempts to get Hetzner to support it have failed (mostly due to lack of interest on Fedora’s side) 🤷‍♂️

https://github.com/coreos/fedora-coreos-tracker/issues/1324

shovemedia,
@shovemedia@triangletoot.party avatar

@aral to solve the setup time issue, would it be possible to create a pool of servers in advance? I could see this being unviable due to additional expense or being beyond the complexity budget.

MC5 were much, much more important in the revolutionary sixties/early seventies scene than I think is widely realized. Not the cultural psychedelic dropout revolution of San Francisco but the wild, threatening, often physically aggressive, no fucks given, desolate, desperate radical street freak revolution, the people who fought cops and were beaten and killed for it, the part of "the sixties" that modern radicals would actually respect & has therefore been minimized and sidelined in history

If you have two 1/2Ω resistors in parallel is that 4Ω resistance? How can that be? shouldn’t putting resistors in parallel reduce the resistance?
NEVERMIND I SEE WHAT I DID JESUS
If you have two 2Ω resistors in parallel that’s 1Ω or half the resistence, this makes sense to me. (I feel like I missed some note saying the resistance must be greater than 1)

Are you a fancy pants foodie who likes fancy jam?

Have you been sad because your jam got mold after only a month or so?

That's how fancy jam works, no preservatives. You pay the price, but I've found a solution that's worked for years:

After you crack the jam open and use it (always with a clean knife, minimize time it's open! Don't let spores in!) Pour a thin layer of honey over the top of the jam. This will prevent mold. It's yummy too.

(What's your food preservation tip?)

shovemedia,
@shovemedia@triangletoot.party avatar

@futurebird In high school biology, we used a torch to sterilize the container opening of any spores that did get in. Just a quick wave of flame over the edge. My group had the best results because I made everyone do a leave-the-lid-on practice run first to help us minimize open-to-air time.

I have this idea that you can have slimmer font weights in dark mode (light text on dark background), than light mode (dark text on light background), and for them to still be nicely readable.

Is this a thing, or just my personal preference?

shovemedia,
@shovemedia@triangletoot.party avatar

@sarajw 100% a thing. The Germans created a new font for their highway signage a number of years ago and did a ton of real world testing. The result had different weights for light-on-dark vs dark-on-light. In their case, the effect would be exaggerated due to headlight reflection, but it’s still a thing!

Is Trump an insurrectionist? Yes.

Should he thereby be banned from holding public office? Yes.

Is there anything undemocratic about that? No.

Some people are not eligible to run for office, and if that doesnʼt include people who incite rebellion, I donʼt know who it does include.

Thatʼs common sense.

But common sense is not law, and there is a real question whether the courts can declare Trump an insurrectionist without citing a specific act of Congress.

I expect SCOTUS to nix it.

The most wacky batshit impossible scifi future I can imagine is one where this -- gestures widely at the entirety of US social, cultural and infrastructural forms that have been largely static since the 70s -- persists.

Where there is no technological or political disruption to wildly new forms of life, nor a collapse to the past, but just like enough tech and political stabilization that people are doing some variation of eg "high school" not much different from an 80s film centuries from now.

I'm hardly Christian these days, but I consider myself "Culturally Southern Black Baptist" through and through. Gotta love the churches that organized people to fight for their civil rights.

And so maybe that's why when these evangelicals compare Trump to Christ (or really any mortal man, but him more-so) it makes my gut turn.

It's not just silly, it's ... sacrilegious. I'm not the first to point this out, but somehow... it doesn't register.

Very very odd.
