Did Trump do something wrong while on trial for doing something wrong?

Probably.

But this isn’t going anywhere. The money will be filtered through PACs and without the power to subpoena the House probe is more a hall monitor who forgot their whistle

Nice system you got there.

It's Selma day! As people in places like Boston feel smug about the racism in supposedly backwards, Southern, red places like Alabama, I'd like to remind everyone that:

  • Boston is more segregated than Birmingham, Alabama
  • Police violence data shows more racial disparities in Boston than in Mobile Alabama, or Birmingham, Alabama. Birmingham cops are worse than 55% of all other police departments. AKA, pretty average for the US. Boston is worse than 99%. Exceptionally bad!

🙂🙃

Chart of police violence in Mobile, Alabama, showing that 50% of Mobile is Black but 75% of the people killed by police there are Black, a disparity worse than 55% of all US police departments.
Chart of police violence in Birmingham, Alabama, showing that 70% of Birmingham is Black but only 58% of the people killed by police there are Black, a disparity worse than only 34% of all US police departments.

Some organizations expect a multi-pagr resume. But before you submit yours, find out what your prospective employer wants.
Generally the resume should be one page, even if you have lots of experience to show.

Police nabbed a graffiti artist attempting to flee the scene of committing this (picture) adorable art in the harbor of Visby, Gotland, the large island just outside southeastern mainland Sweden.
The 27-year-old was prosecuted for vandalism, with the prosecutor demanding a fine.

Police's interrogation records said e.g. that "His intention is to offer free art to passersby." and... the District Court of Gotland... agreed.

The court's ruling states that no harm has been proven and that the artist "on a gray and cracked concrete façade which is the short end of a loading dock, has depicted a lamb.", that "The way in which X has illustrated the lamb testifies to an artistic work carried out with a certain amount of artistic and technical skill." then finally "According to the District Court's opinion, the beauty value of the cracked concrete façade - in purely objective terms - has increased through X's painting." so the 27-year old artist was acquitted by the court, which also ruled that the police had must return the spray cans they had confiscated.

Fragility of complex systems - leads?

I'm curious to widen my net wrt the different ways that complex systems can be fragile (versus robust). Any leads on good things to read?

To plant some seeds of different slices through it:

Adaptive systems (like ecosystems) tend to incorporate feedback. Fragility happens when a small change (eg in one node) leads to a catastrophe. These networks become more fragile as they increase in size:
    https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-58440-6

It's really hard to engineer a complex system that is robust to catastrophic failures. For example, the 2003 NE US blackout happened when I single power line fell into a tree.

Discussion of fragility is peppered all over. eg, here is an example of of it related to managing healthcare systems:
    https://journals.lww.com/jonajournal/citation/2014/12000/handle_with_care__the_fragile_nature_of_complex.5.aspx

As these examples reflect, I'm really curious to learn about anything!

I just got a complaint about my posts, which I concluded came from a troll, but perhaps I’m actually coming off in a way that rubs people the wrong way here.

The complaint was that by posting high resolution images and describing in detail the processes used to create them, I’m merely “showing off” in a way that isn’t useful to most people.

I indeed do rather niche photography, using relatively esoteric gear. I think some people are interested in process and enjoy the results.

If you asked me what a Nationalist would say, it's this.

"Questioned about comments and actions deemed by many to be homophobic, the new Republican US House speaker, Mike Johnson of Louisiana, told Fox News his worldview was: “Go pick up a Bible.”

Speaking on Thursday, Johnson said he “genuinely love[d] all people regardless of their lifestyle choices.

“This is not about the people themselves. I am a Bible-believing Christian. Someone asked me today in the media, they said, ‘… People are curious. What does Mike Johnson think about any issue under the sun?’ I said, well, go pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it – that’s my worldview. That’s what I believe and so I make no apologies for it.”

Johnson added: “That’s my personal worldview.”
