We got bribed to come into the office today by Baker-in-Chief @gabrielarana who brought a pear caramel tart and orange blossom macaroons. #food#journalism#JournoLife
We’re thrilled to share that this image by Jordan Vonderhaar, from his photo essay “Braving ‘La Bestia’” in our July/August 2023 print issue, was named one of the top 100 photos of the year by TIME magazine. (1/2)
Mastodon is currently our third largest social network by following, after ex-birdsite and Facebook.
I understand some of the philosophy behind Eugen & co's choices, but I do wish Mastodon didn't hide its referrers from Google Analytics, or at least that there was an easier way to make this optional.
Hey all, please help keep these important feline reporters telling the stories that count (like yelling for supper). Oh, and also you'll be helping to keep me employed, too.
Our fall membership drive is coming to an end and we still need your help. We've reached over 200 new members since the season began ... can you help us make it to 250?
Membership starts at just $3/month, and you get access to the (new & improved) digital edition of our magazine, six times per year. A little more and we'll send you the print edition, too!
We love the conversations and friendships we make here on the fediverse. The engagement we get here is truly unlike any other social media.
Now it's that time again, when we ask our community to support us. We still need your help to ensure we can continue our vital mission of telling vital, untold stories of #Texas life that matter far beyond our borders.
Today, head baker and Editor-in-Chief @gabrielarana bribed us for coming into the office on a rainy Thursday in #Austin with sweet potato pie. As a result, it's time to settle this once and for all:
Back in March, when the #fediverse came together to help save us, we changed our name to “Texas Observer Lives!”
Today, we changed it back to just "Texas Observer" because we need YOUR HELP to survive into 2024! It's up to our readers to preserve the voice of progressive #Texas by joining our fall membership drive.
As our Editor-in-Chief @gabrielarana recently wrote, "There’s so much work left to do in Texas, and we’re nowhere near done challenging extremists and the money threatening democracy."
In order to survive into our 70th year, we need to raise over $300k by the end of December. You can be a part of that by joining, or renewing your membership with the Texas Observer today: https://hype.co/@texasobserver/zdmn6ya7
We're excited to welcome @malachiskey as one of our new Fall 2023 Reporting Fellows.
Malachi Key (He/They) is a Fall 2023 Fellow at the Texas Observer. He’s currently the Opinion Editor at the University of Houston student newspaper and has previously interned at Houston’s NPR station. He has a particular focus on investigative #journalism#LGBTQIA+ issues, and political reporting.
In his spare time, he loves watching (and occasionally participating in) pro #wrestling, is an avid participant in local #theater and can talk your ear off about #Houston’s surprisingly good #punk scene.
We're excited to welcome @malachiskey to our team (and Mastodon instance) for the next 10 weeks.
The Texas Observer presents In Conversation, with Annette Gordon-Reed and Kathleen McElroy ...
Join us at the Stateside at the Paramount Theater for a special evening and fundraiser to help sustain our reporting. Get tickets at https://texasobserver.org/agr/
We're thrilled to announce the return of Loren Lynch to the Texas Observer team.
Loren is the Interim Executive Director. She comes to the Observer from The Trace, where she was the first Director of Development, and established their membership and major gifts programs, and oversaw all organizational fundraising efforts.
