I am SO sick of joining #Discord Servers for everything and anything.
I do NOT want to join your server of 400+ people I do not know and have no desire to talk to because you wouldn't link me your GitHub or site directly or put necessary information in your README for a thing I just want to download and use.
Please, for the love of Celestia STOP doing this. IF your server gets deleted, that information is GONE. If Discord shuts down, that information is GONE. If someone doesn't want to join a 400+ person chat room, they're SCREWED. PLEASE STOP.
You people know that there are limits to the number of servers people can JOIN right?!
Sweet Luna's Moon! Seriously, just make an RSS Feed..! Put up an info page on GitHub Pages, it's FREE.
I miss forums you could browse without an account :fluttersad:
This sucks so much. I kept telling numerous people " #discord is NOT a forum, it is an IRC app, stop building your communities in it around stuff that needs to be found with a search engine and archived, it's a bad idea for numerous reasons including the overpopulation of server topics in an app that has a 100 server limit" but nobody listened. I hate being right.
We're about to have yet ANOTHER internet library of alexandria situation assuming this shit retroactively applies to existing stuff.
someone on a Japanese hacker forum decided it was a good idea to spam the entire Fediverse because they wanted to cancel a minor that DDoSed a Discord bot which apparently made them lost millions (what?)
A Discord bot. I can't make this shit up man.
The real culprit seems to be someone who goes by mumei in the ctkpaarr.org forums, whose first post was literally a threat to ap12, that if they don't delete their "Kuroneko Server" Discord bot, they will spam every blog, forum and SNS and cancel him.
This shit is ridiculous.
The ap12 account from mastodon-japan was actually fake, and this dude impersonated a minor to get all of the Fediverse (us) to bully him.
This work was inspired by a plate from my wife's late mother, Barbara. One day it was dropped and shattered. Some time after, I picked up a pen and started working on the "Fragmented" series, exploring the possibilities of things broken and the stories that can evolve from them.
A service called Spy Pet is scraping Discord servers, archiving and tracking users' messages and activity, and then selling access to that data.
Spy Pet scrapes more than 10,000 Discord servers, and besides selling access to anyone with cryptocurrency, it offers the data for training AI models or to assist law enforcement agencies, according to its website.
Spy Pet claims to be tracking more than 14,000 servers, 600 million users, and includes a database of more than 3 billion messages.
"Don’t call me. Don’t text me. Don’t show up on my front porch. Don’t even @ me. I’m reading tonight.🍿🍷
Someone leaked the entire Moms 4 Liberty private Discord chat and turned it into a website."
What is trust?
Trust is not spying on your kids, but asking them if they ever come across something online that makes them feel uncomfortable.
Trust is not using this #discord dashboard shit that spies on them, because you're some kind of parental peeping Tom.
Absolutely fuck that shit!
I do not want, nor need to see everything my children write to their friends.
You do that, you could very well break secrets, break trust between such friend groups and basically you're a terrible person for even thinking this is a good idea.
Put yourself in their shoes.
Do you want someone reading your messages on your friend groups too?
No? Didn't think so.
Have a bloody care for fuck sake!
Does anyone know a good #discord server related to #autism? I am #struggling to make #friends. I don’t have any and really need #support, someone to #talk to…and have trouble making friends. I’m #lonely and not sure if this would #help or not. I’m wondering if finding a #community would make finding #friendship easier. Thank you in advance.
So #Discord will now scan content automatically "To protect the children". with AI? we were forced to give our phone numbers already to access servers so we are easily idenrified. What happens when the AI scanner makes the first mistake?
Forums were dropped and we were forced to use Discord, a closed proprietary platform. This is bad.
We need to go back to #IRC, even if we have to arrange a time for meeting because messages are not saved on a server (in the past).
Lots of posts lamenting how much knowledge will vanish as Discord enshittifies. True, but it's already lost to searchers, the privacy conscious, and the people it locks out for no damn reason at all. (Tag yourself, I'm all three.) It's already smothering your community. Open source belongs on the open web.
«Discord took no action against #server that coordinated costly #Mastodon spam attacks»
I haven't used #Discord for a long time and I'm not surprised. But I can certainly recommend @matrix, because apart from the technology, I also find it pleasant to use, just like different #chat servers.
