Hey folks. The non profit I do stuff with needs some #Miami area #reporters pinged. On #Twitter.
I don't have a Twitter account. Anybody with a X account willing to ping a couple of reporters for me?
We're dropping off hundreds of letters asking the State Attorney to keep her word and #ReduceArrests
The Mayor, the public defender, the Judges of our state circuit court and the chiefs of police association have all signed off on it. We just need her.
A #juror was quickly dismissed at the start. She was among the 7 already selected, she said she was very worried that despite the fact the court ruled to keep jurors’ name secret, she would still be exposed & targeted.
We are down to 6 jurors, & apparently waiting to hear from another, juror 4. The judge is addressing the #NewsMedia, saying there is a reason #reporters are taking measures to keep the #jury#anonymous.
It “kind of defeats the purpose of that" when so much information is #publicized about them.
Justice #Merchan says the questions about employers are necessary. But he directs prospective jurors' answers to be #redacted from the transcript & #reporters to not report them.
Christopher Conroy, one of the Manhattan DA prosecutors, is now arguing that #Trump has continued to violate the #GagOrder that was placed on him. [ya think?]
WaPo obtained & reviewed footage from #Thuraya’s drone, which was stored in a memory card recovered at the scene & sent to a production company in #Turkey. No Israeli soldiers, aircraft or other military equipment are visible in the footage taken that day
The Post is publishing Drone footage shot by #MustafaThuraya less than an hour before he & fellow #journalist#HamzaDahdouh were killed in a targeted #Israel airstrike in its entirety — raising critical questions about why the #journalists were targeted. Fellow #reporters said they were unaware of troop movements in the area.
Dear press people, you can't fix generative AI by blocking prompts. Really. If you need to talk about why that is, call me up. This credulous coverage is just silly.
"On International Women's Day, 9-year-old reporter Lama Abo Jamous sheds light on the plight of Palestinian women from a Rafah displacement camp. Her reporting emphasizes the contrast between global celebrations of emancipation and the reality faced by these women, who bear unimaginable burdens." from Translating Falasteen, 08/Mar/2024:

#America is struggling w/ several crises, most notably a #radical, #antidemocratic leader & movement controlling one of its major #political parties. America’s journalism industry is also in crisis: Its traditional funding sources are drying up, leading to mass #layoffs.
…The #journalism industry should reorganize itself to focus squarely on #America’s crises, both to help the country & give itself a clear #mission & purpose that could make it more financially viable in the long run. We need more #reporters reading #environmental impact studies & #school-improvement plans, w/ #salaries funded by #readers who are essentially giving a tithe to #democracy. And perhaps fewer #journalists in football stadiums.

This hedge-fund company is buying up US #newspapers, and killing them. They own the Chicago #Tribune, Baltimore Sun, San Jose Mercury News, #DenverPost, San Diego Union-Tribune, various local papers and more. Their days are numbered.
This is a big deal.
Without big news outlets, who covers a wide variety of beats (with #reporters who are specialized in those areas), does investigative reporting, uncover then publicize shady activities, and have a pulse on local shenanigans, and monitor #misinformation?
Smaller, independent papers can't do it -- while they may do a good job, they are generally focused on only 1 or 2 areas.
This article gives a stunning look at what's happening. If you feel the quality of journalism has gone down, things like this is why.

@andreagrimes on how the destruction of the bird app has impacted her and many other independent #journalists.
