What is the term for that type of inertia where you can't get anything else done in a given day because you have one time-specific thing on your calendar so you end up waiting until you do that one thing?
I know there are words for it. I just can't remember them.
@arisummerland I've always heard it as "wait mode". Typically specified with a qualifier to help NTs understand it's an ND thing, like "ADHD wait mode", "autistic wait mode", or "ND wait mode".
“AuDHD represents a blend of ADHD and autistic traits, leading to unique experiences and challenges. When the underlying needs of ADHD and autism interact, it can feel like a tug of war for the AuDHDer - Do I need routine or spontaneity? Newness or familiarity? Busyness or a steady pace? Though these examples are quite simplistic, they illustrate the internal confusion of the AuDHDer attempting to address their needs.”
Trying something new. The #ADHD neurologist (has it and it's her specialty) I follow on IG says that if you want to do stuff, don't sit down because transitions are hard. So, after walkies, I went straight to my sewing room. I find this hilarious. This is now known as sneaking up on my brain😂
@kcarruthers I asked one of my yoga teacher program teachers, who is ADHD, how to do my practice every day (it went from a hyperfixation to daily chore when it became homework) how to do my homework practice every day and she told me to lie in bed and watch the video. Most times, you will find yourself doing by the end. Again, trick the brain.😂
@julie if you don't like VTT, then don't use one: would your party be OK with theater of the mind? Or can you do a digital whiteboard, or use ASCII art instead?
Just because your the DM doesn't mean you shouldn't also be having fun.
Its pretty much weekly, now.
I arrive at the end of every week not remembering my own identity or why I even wake up in the morning, but just wanting to escape reality.
It's so bad this week that I literally thought yesterday was saturday.
@wakehamAMR Well, with AuDHD I can sometimes (=roll a d3) function in times of crisis but then my autism needs some reeaaaal time alone to recharge; or I can work with patterns when I trick my hyperfocus to do it, but my exhaustion afterwards just lets me flop on the bed; or I don't manage anything at all (critical miss) and am a miserable pos laying depressed on the floor shrug
I wanted to bake something today because the weather was cool, but I couldn't remember the recipe, so I had to look it up, but the recipe book was packed, so I had to move a bunch of boxes to get to it, but while they were out of the way I decided to put the kitchen rug down, then as long as I was at it I unpacked some dishes, then I unpacked my cookbooks then decided to put them on the tea cart, then put every else back nicely & now the kitchen looks better but I'm too tired to bake. #ADHD
@samhainnight Old Story: Man goes into kitchen gets a glass of water. Goes back to front room to watch TV.
Woman goes into kitchen to get a drink of water, sees a mess on the counter top, wipes it down, clears a few dishes from the sink to the dishwasher, feeds the cat, mops the floor… then remembers to get a drink of water. Decides to make it vodka.
@btaroli@actuallyautistic I'm not sure our society encourages that, specifically, so much as it's been propagated that hard work is how you move up the hierarchy (earn money, be competitive), while not tuning into the gratis labor that parents have to do.
Back in the day, the economic model of traditional family labelled parenting a FT job, and good jobs paid for a whole family, or so the story went. It's now an antiquated model, but you can still see it on your tax forms.
@btaroli@actuallyautistic Set your boundaries ahead of time if at all possible. There are also some really great tips and stories on r/SingleParents.
It's hard. Take care of your health, though, because this moment of life will pass more quickly than you can imagine, and one notable thing you'll have to show for it is the state of your body.
#ADHD Friends! Have you managed to lock yourself out of your house or apartment more than once this year? You need to buy one of these hanging key lockboxes. They sell for about $45 in the US. Set the code, put a spare set of keys inside, and lock it onto your doorknob. Yes, it's expensive but it's way cheaper and faster than a locksmith. I had to use it this morning and to not have that immediate sense of panic was amazing.
🦋 If you struggle with ADHD or have your focus constantly ruined by a whirlwind of thoughts, then you probably use productivity tools that can help crush those distractions and give you some peace of mind.
Find out how you can say goodbye to those scattered thoughts by customizing the Vivaldi browser to work for your needs and preferences 👇🏻
@beardedtechguy Vivaldi has done a spectacular job just locking me into their browser. I use it for so much I don't even know where I'd begin with a different one. Another example is the Panel. As an admin of an instance, I spend a LOT of time here on Mastodon, and I'm constantly looking stuff up and taking notes. Something that I'm sure has been there forever and I never noticed is the ability to drag text from the active tab to a panel. Works AMAZINGLY for notes and translating.
and apparently my #Adderall prescription is “delayed“. don’t know why, they didn’t answer the phone and I’m at work... not able to just come running. but maybe I have to. besides the #ADHD, that is the medication keeping me upright and semi-functional while #psychiatrist was eliminating the supplements and medications that make me sleep. Fml.
