@therightarticle At certain times of year public transport is also free in my home city, Murcia - all of December and also certain public holiday days. The trams are rammed full & the buses are pretty busy, too.
Making local public transport free looks like the cheapest and fastest way to cut pollution in our cities.
#COP28 “calls on” participating nations to “contribute” to the “transitioning away from fossil fuels in energy systems.”
"The word “away” ... offers a hard benchmark for both climate speech and climate action. Does that speech and action sustain, justify, excuse, or promote fossil fuels? Or does it transition, move, innovate, or legislate away from them? These questions can be answered with a clarity that not even the phrase “phaseout” can provide."
Chihuahuas and Christmas dinners for Climate Action
More fame... we feature in The Sustainable Hour pre-christmas podcast . Dad did all the talking, although we did take a break, jump down and bark at people passing our front door.
"Our guests in The Sustainable Hour no. 488 are Juliet and Jones from #ChihuahuasForClimateAction along with their owner, John Englart, and the English singer-songwriter and climate activist Louise Harris."
@MichaelEMann In the case of #COP28, even one and the same person can say “failure” (in terms of what's needed) and “success” (in terms of what was politically feasible).
The final text of #COP28 offers a weak compromise full of #greenwashing lingo.
But activists can turn the tables by focusing on the little word "transitioning away from fossil fuels - and for every policy, every action, every future agreement, we can ask: does it support moving away from fossil fuels or not? https://newrepublic.com/article/177637/language-wars-decide-climate-fight
“A nine-page confidential "position paper" seen by AFP also touted the Africa Carbon Markets Initiative (ACMI), which McKinsey has publicly said it helped develop, and called for the building of a $6 billion market for carbon offsets on the continent.”
“McKinsey said the documents "were for use by the president of Kenya and they reflect his ambitions, not McKinsey's."”
Ah yes, the old ‘we don’t want it, but if someone did want it this is how you’d do it’.
COP28: Hypocrisy and Climate Appeasement Bruce Robertson independent energy analyst exposes the hypocrisies & lobbying taking place at COP28 & how talk of investing in a green transition is belied by increasing fossil fuel subsidies worldwide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHz_i27bMHU#COP28#LateStageHumanity
