Merci ! #aide
The Elements We Live By
How Iron Helps Us Breathe, Potassium Lets Us See, and Other Surprising Superpowers of the Periodic Table by Anja Røyne
We all know that we depend on elements for survival - from oxygen in the air we breathe to carbon in the molecular structures of all living things. But we seldom appreciate how, say, phosphorus holds our DNA together or how potassium powers our optic nerves enabling us to see.
There may be people who remember a little video I made with the brilliant Ed Prosser for the Royal Institution in the run up to the Christmas Lectures. In that video is showed off some #glassblowing spectacles made of didymium glass. #chemistry#elementshttps://youtu.be/6Ul8CmUkO4E 1/n
Love 80s music but know nowt about chemistry? Love chemistry but know nada about 80s music? This is the thing for you. (Coming shortly to a website near me…) xx
I use breathwork and directed elemental energy as part of my aerobic routine. One thing that it has made me aware of is how certain bands or songs tend towards certain elements, the most noticeable being water, fire, and air.
It's not what seems to be the most obvious. It's not the more metal a band is the more it trends towards fire. It's more about the way it's played. Transitions between verse & chorus & break, the lyrical, how the riffs and passages interact with each other.
Fire music tends to use brighter tones, is harsher (not in a bad way), and transitions are more of a switch as opposed to a crossfade (like water music where transitions just flow into one another). Air music tends to be more technical and intellectual. 1/2
I Spent Most of My “Witching Year” Feeling Like a Failure ~ When people ask “why do you want to become a Witch right now?”, I hesitate on answering. There are technically two truths to that answer. One is not sexy. The other is embarrassing.
Morning all. On a completely different note. What do you get the Half Man Half Biscuit fan who’s got everything? A period table of elements of course. A labour of love for a unique band. Xx
Which of the four classical elements (fire, water, earth, and air) would you assign to each of the four DNA nucleotides (adenine, thymine, cytocine, and guanine?)
@khthoniaa not sure, but ona related note I relate the four elements to the four states of matter (I know there's technically more). We may have a different understanding of elements in modern science, but I do think the ancient Greeks were onto something with this:
Solid = Earth
Liquid = Water
Gas = Air
Plasma = Fire
To the right, the #elemental figures of Ignis (fire) and Aer (air) - the other two #elements are on the following page.

its like learning to read existing language without any letters,
is like knowing the signs and signals you recieve and how you interpret,
its like the universe programming,
its like discovering elements in nature without any prior knowledge of them, and how they work in a fixed manner
