a camera flash with a piece of transparent plastic attached to the side. There is a circuit board moulded in two components of resin. A blue LED lights up on the circuit board.
The open battery compartment of the flash - the contacts have corrosion damage from leaking battery fluid. A power resistor can be seen in the compartment

Long ago we made a fairly violent action movie. All that blood? Real! Later a guy stole our master copy saying he planned to do a scene-by-scene re-shoot. By himself. Starring himself.

⚡ The Open-Source Community Is Still Maintaining Flash Player Support In 2024
@phoronix

「 It's been over three years since Adobe officially pushed Flash Player to End-Of-Life, after years being on the decline. In the open-source world there's been various Flash efforts over the years like Gnash while the Ruffle project is the most significant one still tackling Flash Player emulation 」

this is some wonderful writing and digital archeology to find the very first Flash game. it’s quite a dive down memory lane and kind of highlights what was wonderful about this lost internet era. definitely recommended reading!

Holy cripes! This project could revive an entire lost generation of interactive content built in (thousands upon thousands of beloved titles.)

For any youngins': Flash was tech that brought playful, app-like interactivity to the web before mobile apps even existed. Unlike choppy, low-res pixel graphics of the day, Flash delivered butter-smooth vector animation meaning all those forgotten apps will scale to HD screens, no jaggies in sight.

How retro kick ass is that? Flash is resurrected sans the neglected, proprietary, security ridden, plugin bs of Adobe; thanks to Rust, and modern day sandboxed WebAssembly. No plugin required; small, compact, compatible engine, that unlocks decades of lost SWF content in all its vector visuals, MP3 stereo, and ActionScript-y glory. https://github.com/ruffle-rs/ruffle
