First week of #30DayFOSSChallenge is coming to an end. My blogpost will be a few days late because I'll be camping for the #eclipse but I'm excited by what's already happening.
Interested in #FOSS but haven't taken the time to explore it? Or familiar but wanting to dive deeper? Have no idea what that is, but are interested in decreasing your reliance on evil corporations?
If any of the above, check out the #30DayFOSSChallenge. In April I will be posting all about it, and encouraging others to join me. Hope you come along for the journey.
Still public domain, still a free wizard! If you want a version with trannsparent-bg just use the one I posted yesterday, it actually is pretty when not upscaled by Mastodon :3.
Here's a #freeculture question: if I have licensed some of my own writing under a Creative Commons license with a non-commercial aspect, am I still allowed to sell the writing?
years ago, I tried to set up an umbrella organization for podcasters and such. We went through some name changes but for the longest time was referred to as the Netizen Empowerment Federation. At the time, I think part of the problem was there were a number of folks that wanted to be involved that were really doing different things, but maybe it is time to revisit something of this nature for #ccmusic since CC HQ is hostile to music.
@wjmaggos I don't remember all the history but basically #freeculture was defined to align with #freesoftware. BY-NC-SA seems to be far and away the highest license in music so doing something just libre cuts out pretty much everybody
I just requested a book from the San Francisco Public library to be delivered to the San Diego Public Library branch close to me, all for free, and I think this is amazing.
Great news. Last year's release of the IRR related to #Copyright stated that a registry will be created for Filipino works, and works produced in the Philippines, in the #PublicDomain.
In addition to the above, the IRR also finalised that any Philippine government works, unless otherwise specified, are now automatically in the Public Domain.
My version of the character Ada from "Ada & Zangemann", a Creative Commons license (BY-SA) book for children and a funny story about Free/Libre and Open-Source. It's written by Matthias Kirschner and illustrated by Sandra Brandstätter. It is great to see new characters in the Free Culture, especially because Ada is so cool. 💜
You can find it printed in English, French, German, Italian → https://fsfe.org/activities/ada-zangemann/
If you want to do a favor to the FREE (as beer) #pcb design community, dont use jlcpcb multicolor stuff. The design files are cryptographically tied to jlcpcb so no one else can manufacture them.
(edited after precisions from @jaseg - thats less bad than I had originally understood)
Browse your OS's installed info pages from the comfort of Emacs. I'm using it right now to browse the #elisp manual.
The info system is a hypertext mini-web available on most unixy OSes, and is primarily used to supplement man pages, often with more of a tutorial style.
Very handy when you want a refresher in some old hacker's ideas about how something should've worked 30 years ago. 😜
#Openclipartencourages users to take existing cliparts and edit, mash or remix them at will to create new ones and explicitly shows you the parts used! This is the spirit of #remix culture right here! :D
