Do I know anyone on here affected by the Open Collective Foundation dissolution? Code for Philly uses OCF as our fiscal sponsor and we are looking to connect with other affected #philadelphia orgs as we work to find a new fiscal sponsor setup.
The #OpenCollective Foundation, a fiscal host for charitable projects, will dissolve. This will be highly disruptive to more than 600 groups that depend on this foundation.
「 Unfortunately, over the past year, we have learned that Open Collective Foundation's business model is not sustainable with the number of complex services we have offered and the fees we pay to the Open Collective Inc. tech platform 」
😭 #OpenSource charitable fiscal host Open Collective Foundation is shutting down, ceasing donation ⛔️💵processing March 15th. Since there's a lot of confusion around names, here's a handy explainer, and I'll be adding a better list of alternative fiscal hosts (since you'll probablyb need a US 501(c)(3)) #OpenCollective
An update for BNE Social friends. Just letting everyone know we've reimbursed our very first server bill ($17.72) for Object Storage in the cloud through #OpenCollective funds generously contributed by the community. All donations and expenses are 100% open and transparent on our page. Thank you all so much! :ibis: https://opencollective.com/bnesocial
Experience the New Open Collective Dashboard - now live for all users! 🌀✨
Administrative features were previously sprinkled in and around profile pages and settings. Whether you're a contributor, collective, organization or fiscal host admin. Dashboard changes that by consolidating and organizing your administrative tasks into an integrated experience.
You might have heard of fedi.monster, a self-titled "anarcho-communist collective"
These people help 140 instances (including mine) operate by providing managed hosting to people who don't have the technical backing (or in my case, spoons) to run an instance by themselves.
They've just moved to using OpenCollective for their funding to be upfront about their finances.
Their one sysadmin is looking to take a permanent break and they're aiming to hire people to fill the role; if you know of people with those talents, and who are looking for some work - please get in touch with them at hello@fedi.monster
Otherwise, if you can spare money and want to donate to keep fedi.monster going; you can do that on their OpenCollective page here:
It's been really liberating being able to have my own little corner on the internet and not having to worry & faff with all the associated costs that come with running a Mastodon server.
I really appreciate the work of the people at FediMonster and I hope that they can keep going and providing such a valuable service to the community 💙

I am now supporting @postmarketOS with 2,50€ each month. It's not much, but every little bit helps. I do believe what they do is groundbreaking work and immensely important to the future of open source software, and reducung electronic waste in the infamous mobile sector. I also just like it.
#modteam The #OMN activism instance has shut down due to payment cancelled from lack of funds. We received no direct donations for this instance for the last year on #opencollective or #bitcoin and funds were far beyond exorsted.
We would like to restart the instance based on a different codebase if donations could cover the ongoing costs of servers and hosting #DIY
Our culture is currently not strong anufe to support alt media hosting or production.
I am stepping back from the #Tusky project with immediate effect.
I discovered severe lapses in how the Tusky project's donations (received via #OpenCollective) were being handled. When I reported those to the project's private "Tusky Contributors" Matrix channel the financial admins tone policed the feedback, refused to engage with the concerns I and others raised, and demanded the discussion be stopped.
This week's donation went to the OpenAndroidInstaller project. It allows for easy install of various deGoogled Android operating systems to mobile phones. For instance on my Pixel 2 it was as simple as a dozen or so mouse clicks and downloading two files to get Android replaced by LineageOS. There weas no use of a temrinal required for the install and this will really help non tech saavy people get free of Android as well as save time for those who are tech saavy. There are over 60 devices supported at this time. The project code is licensed using GPLv3.0.
Is there a standard suggested Donation Tiers chart for Open Source projects? Like, how much money should be donated in order to get a shout out on social media, or to get free stickers, etc? #github#opencollective#patreon#opensource
Hey there #bldrweb friends! I finally created a way to receive contributions ($$) toward the server hosting costs for our instance (toot.bldrweb.org). Please check out the #OpenCollective page for all the details:
"Open Collective is a legal and financial toolbox for grassroots groups. It’s a fundraising + legal status + money management platform for your community. What do you want to do?"
If you like #Fedilab and use #opencollective, you can contribute to our server charges (we didn't find alternative yet, so we stopped our cancel action).
