I am stepping back from the project with immediate effect.

I discovered severe lapses in how the Tusky project's donations (received via ) were being handled. When I reported those to the project's private "Tusky Contributors" Matrix channel the financial admins tone policed the feedback, refused to engage with the concerns I and others raised, and demanded the discussion be stopped.

There is too much detail for a thread, so please read https://write.as/nikclayton/stepping-back-from-the-tusky-project.

fuck Open Collective Foundation is shutting down
https://daniel-lange.com/archives/186-Opencollective-shutting-down.html

hey @opencollective y'all need to be more transparent! We shouldn't be finding out about this thru random blog posts...

via @Foxboron

(Seems as if other parts of Open Collective are not shutting down, just the Foundation, still super confusing)

If you like and use , you can contribute to our server charges (we didn't find alternative yet, so we stopped our cancel action).

may be shutting down?

Looks like some and some groups will have some decisions to make and then communicate.

@PresGas Not the platform or the Open Source Collective 501(c)(6) business league that hosts many groups. Only the OCF 501(c)(3) public charity entity is winding down.

The blog title is unfortunately misleading and, while a loss to the world, is also causing a lot of unnecessary panic today.

A new association service, Open Collective, offers an intriguing way to raise funds and provide radical financial transparency to members.

@realn2s @OSCo It's been 7 years since I wrote about . I haven't used it myself, but it seems to have grown healthily. At https://opencollective.com/ you'll see that it's not restricted to the U.S.; there are currently 15,000 groups around the world who raised & managed $35M last year.

For tips and learning on participant-driven and participation-rich meetings, there is a wealth of information on my blog (800+ posts) and in my 3 meeting design ebooks ($49.99 for all 3; $19.99 each).

realn2s,

@ASegar
Great idea. This would possibly solve a problem we currently face creating a not-for-profit participant driven security conference (@OSCo)(*)

This brings me to the question, is regional restricted (US only)?

(*) We're currently plan an format (your critic is known and your book is on my wishlist).
If you have tips or learning for us they would be very welcome 😀

Heya, this is kinda a begpost, but not directly.

You might have heard of fedi.monster, a self-titled "anarcho-communist collective"

These people help 140 instances (including mine) operate by providing managed hosting to people who don't have the technical backing (or in my case, spoons) to run an instance by themselves.

They've just moved to using OpenCollective for their funding to be upfront about their finances.

Their one sysadmin is looking to take a permanent break and they're aiming to hire people to fill the role; if you know of people with those talents, and who are looking for some work - please get in touch with them at hello@fedi.monster

Otherwise, if you can spare money and want to donate to keep fedi.monster going; you can do that on their OpenCollective page here:

https://opencollective.com/fedimon

It's been really liberating being able to have my own little corner on the internet and not having to worry & faff with all the associated costs that come with running a Mastodon server.

I really appreciate the work of the people at FediMonster and I hope that they can keep going and providing such a valuable service to the community 💙

Is there a standard suggested Donation Tiers chart for Open Source projects? Like, how much money should be donated in order to get a shout out on social media, or to get free stickers, etc?

😭 charitable fiscal host Open Collective Foundation is shutting down, ceasing donation ⛔️💵processing March 15th. Since there's a lot of confusion around names, here's a handy explainer, and I'll be adding a better list of alternative fiscal hosts (since you'll probablyb need a US 501(c)(3))

Many thanks to Open Collective Europe for clarifying that they're not affected (and the drupal.community mastodon instance by extension) by the dissolution of the Open Collective Foundation, all the messages have been very confusing until now https://opencollective.com/europe/updates/regarding-the-announcement-to-dissolve-open-collective-foundation-us

The activism instance has shut down due to payment cancelled from lack of funds. We received no direct donations for this instance for the last year on or and funds were far beyond exorsted.

We would like to restart the instance based on a different codebase if donations could cover the ongoing costs of servers and hosting

Our culture is currently not strong anufe to support alt media hosting or production.

An update for BNE Social friends. Just letting everyone know we've reimbursed our very first server bill ($17.72) for Object Storage in the cloud through funds generously contributed by the community. All donations and expenses are 100% open and transparent on our page. Thank you all so much! :ibis: https://opencollective.com/bnesocial

The Foundation, a fiscal host for charitable projects, will dissolve. This will be highly disruptive to more than 600 groups that depend on this foundation.

Here's the official announcement:

Do I know anyone on here affected by the Open Collective Foundation dissolution? Code for Philly uses OCF as our fiscal sponsor and we are looking to connect with other affected orgs as we work to find a new fiscal sponsor setup.

Are @iffybooks or @phillycommunitywireless using OCF?
