Earlier I was using Pi-Hole on my network then switched to AdGuard Home (not same as AdGuard DNS) as it is an open source product with in-built DOH support (yes, I can setup Pi-Hole to do the same, but that’s an extra manual configuration) and Privacy Guide seems to recommend it over Pi-hole. After reading your post, I tried to lookup more about it. Nothing on Wiki. Closest thing is this. If the allegations are true then I need to switch back to Pi-Hole.
#CyberSecurity#TrustedComputing: "After all, a system that treats the device's owner as an adversary is a natural ally for the owner's other, human adversaries. The rubric for treating the owner as an adversary focuses on the way that users can be fooled by bad people with bad programs. If your computer gets taken over by malicious software, that malware might intercept queries from your antivirus program and send it false data that lulls it into thinking your computer is fine, even as your private data is being plundered and your system is being used to launch malware attacks on others.
These separate, non-user-accessible, non-updateable secure systems serve a nubs of certainty, a remote fortress that observes and faithfully reports on the interior workings of your computer. This separate system can't be user-modifiable or field-updateable, because then malicious software could impersonate the user and disable the security chip.
It's true that compromised computers are a real and terrifying problem. Your computer is privy to your most intimate secrets and an attacker who can turn it against you can harm you in untold ways. But the widespread redesign of out computers to treat us as their enemies gives rise to a range of completely predictable and – I would argue – even worse harms. Building computers that treat their owners as untrusted parties is a system that works well, but fails badly." https://pluralistic.net/2024/01/18/descartes-delenda-est/#self-destruct-sequence-initiated
It was the bane of the Romans and it is the bane of today's computers with undetectable boot-time UEFI infections that cannot be remedied and can infect every computer on the same LAN.
The UEFI boot model where a computer system that by design cannot be updated has full root power to do anything, unseen by the computer's Operating System, was brain-dead conceptually from the start, and now its flaws are home to roost.
As a science fiction writer, I am professionally irritated by a lot of sf movies. Not only do those writers get paid a lot more than I do, they insist on including things like "self-destruct" buttons on the bridges of their starships.

Yes, well put, my exact experience too. So much of "who we are" has been passed on to us, and when my "I" speaks, my predecessors speak through me. Parents, but other life shapers too. As a university teacher, I often find myself enacting the habits and mannerisms of my academic mentors. I don't fight that. We are all part of that one shared process.
Impactful portrait of your father, one can feel his presence.
Can't help but wonder: I never get any sales, never get any comments, never get any click-throughs...does anyone even read this stuff I write, or am I just wasting my time? It all seems so pointless...
I notice other people when they go to the effort to write things and post things they actually get sales, click-throughs, readers who comment, and all that good stuff. Me? Nobody ever even wants to engage with my works at all.
My whole life has been a pattern where literally nobody has ever truly liked me or really wanted me. When I became active on here I hoped it might be different, but no...nobody wants me or likes me online either. There's something about me that's just defective... 😔

"I" am a self-aware, singular, unique point of self-referential consciousness. But you, and everyone else in the world are also our own "I". We are all an "I".
And while we are all different, in circumstances, history, etc... we are all the same "I". The self that asks.
In that sense, "I" really is plural, all of us.
"I" are both rich and poor, healthy and sick, in wars and in peace, all over the world.
The answer to "What if I were <blank> instead?" Is, "I/we already are."
Distance works in time as well as space. Frequency of contact indicates closeness, so contacting someone often can be a transgression. Rather than 'getting to know you better,' they can maintain the same distance as the circumstances when you first met. Thus, many foreigners say they can't make friends with Japanese.
Much use of silence. Large private self vs. small public self. The same act, such as posting one's photo & real name online, falls into the public #self of Westerners but the private self of Japanese.
Most Japanese are undemonstrative of emotions & affection. Standing close or touching them can easily be taken as a sexual or presumptuous invasion of their private realm.
Japanese feel personal space palpably. They make a cutting #gesture when passing someone closely.
