Hawthorn, flowers just opening. We planted this in 2019. For rapid capture scrub outperforms though in a 15-30 year timescale the trees will take over. The trees will also do better with the hedge for cover. As well as being full of buds this hedge is full of , biodiversity and carbon capture hand in hand.

UN chief Antonio Guterres has launched another strong attack on fossil fuel companies, accusing them of betraying future generations and undermining efforts to phase out a product he called “incompatible with human survival.”

He also dismissed plans by some oil executives — including the man tapped to chair the talks — saying that without real emissions cuts they would just become “more efficient planet-wreckers.”

With regard to carbon capture, does this actually solve the wide issue of greenhouse emissions. I was under the impression that CO_2 is the MAIN greenhouse gas, however there are other gasses that contribute to the greenhouse effect.

So by removing CO_2 we solve part of the issue, only for cars, that are pumping out CO_2 they are also pumping out other gasses such as Oxides of Nitrogren and Sulful as well as carciogens such as Benzine, as well as particulates that are also dangerous to human health.

So how much does carbon capture actually solve the problem, when we just need to reduce these emissions, and plant more trees.

Or am i missing some important point here. ?

Will storing CO2 in old oil fields slow global warming? First plan nears approval

"At least two earlier versions of the proposal planned to capture CO2 and inject it inside aging oil wells to flush out more petroleum. In 2022, however, the state Legislature passed a bill banning projects from boosting oil production."

But there are still risks around leaks and pipeline ruptures, especially near population centers.

Carbon capture subsidies promise a windfall for big oil and gas - The Washington Post https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2022/10/09/carbon-capture-oil-gas/ “The irony of is that the place it has proven most successful is getting more oil out of the ground. All but one major project built in the United States to date is geared toward fossil fuel companies taking the trapped carbon and injecting it into underground wells to extract crude.

: "If we’re going to prevent the gravest dangers of global warming, experts agree, removing significant amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere is essential. That’s why, over the past few years, projects focused on growing seaweed to suck CO2 from the air and lock it in the sea have attracted attention—and significant amounts of funding—from the US government and private companies including Amazon.

The problem: farming enough seaweed to meet climate-change goals may not be feasible after all.

A new study, published today in Nature Communications Earth & Environment, estimates that around a million square kilometers of ocean would need to be farmed in order to remove a billion tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere over the course of a year. It’s not easy to come by that amount of space in places where seaweed grows easily, given all the competing uses along the coastlines, like shipping and fishing."

Good news everybody!

Direct air capture of CO2 will allow for "net-zero" oil to be produced and consumed. The is solved!

Not only will be able to profit from first selling then again from cleaning up (some of) the damages (at exorbitant rates only made possible by huge government subsidies into technologies), but it will also be able to gas light us into thinking it's good for the environment.

I heard on NPR this morning that the Biden admin is heavily committed to carbon capture and storage (not a surprise), which includes pipelines to transport the captured carbon to its storage point, possibly in the middle of the USA's national forests and grasslands. Somehow I didn't know about the pipelines. What a fucking travesty. Why a travesty? Because it takes materials and emits pollution to build pipelines, and the pipelines themselves are guaranteed to spill carbon as well, just like the methane pipelines are emitting methane right now.

"Net zero" is a lie; the only real path to harmonious life on earth is decarbonization and electrification.

Anyway the proposal is up for comment.
