Thread to share some #TrailRunning#ParkRun#Communities and #Charities that constitute the actual broad ranging “culture” and “scene” (🤮hate those words) of trail running in the US for ordinary masses of humans across countless cities and 50 states beyond just 2 elite niche races in the tiny towns of Auburn California and Silverton Colorado (👀 Western States & Hardrock) that people seem to think represent trail running in the US. #JoinIn
My first impressions with the #Fediverse, #Flipboard and #activitypub. I am still feeling my way around the environment. I am not thrilled about having so many accounts all over the place and it doesn’t seem like they are all connected. I would eventually like to see a seamless connection between my Flipboard magazines, my Flipboard account, my mastodon account and my threads account. I would like to get to a place where I can communicate with my followers and build meaningful #communities
Higher density living is changing the way neighborhoods work in Canada
To contribute to this challenge, our research examines what we do and do not know about neighbors in densifying Canadian cities.
(Note: I sent the editor an email suggesting they invest in a copy of the Oxford English dictionary because "We do not use the US bastardized version of the English language")
“#NathanSchneider has the patience and fortitude most of us lack. He’s identified a phenomenon he calls “#ImplicitFeudalism’ - the bias to build our online and real #communities as #fiefdoms, and how this has made us more tolerant of similarly autocratic CEOs and politicians. He’s even optimistic and energetic enough to see how the blockchain could be employed to distribute #governance in a more democratic fashion.”
#BlackMastodon#BlackTwitter#Abolition#Communities#OurFutures I was watching our partial eclipse yesterday with my daughter in a local area. There's a row of food shops, cleaners, credit union and nail salons where we were sitting. The employees were getting permission to come outside and see the eclipse but of course none of them had any eye protection. We signaled for them to come over and share ours. In about 10 minutes we were surrounded by workers from four different ethnic groups. 1/5

My first #opinion piece! I am proud to see it @ Harlem's own #NewYork Amsterdam #news
"The #dehumanization of the Haitian ppl & their culture is not new, despite being the only nation in the #African diaspora that has the distinct #history of successfully revolting against [transatlantic] #slavery & claiming its independence in the 19th century. The targeting of marginalized ppl & #communities of color takes form in the weaponization of #racial bias, fear, & hate...”
Think about the destruction of this unique community treasure the next time some libertarian is glibly trying to persuade you that minimizing constraints on private property will maximize social welfare.

I love reading documentation (and blogs and books) from the #rstats world. I can learn so much so quickly just by reading the docs! And they're often a joy to read!
I'm glad this community puts such emphasis and effort into high quality #documentation, and I'm grateful for all folks who pour time into maintaining it.
Are you aware of any other #communities with similar cultures about documentation?
I'm wondering not just about technical or programming communities (definitely interested in hearing about those), but any type. Birders maybe? Parts of academia? Collaborative industries?
Continuing our #EverythingOpen Schedule highlights, we're delighted to present @tobybellwood, @uselagoon Product Tech Lead at @amazeeio, who will be presenting on engaging, nurturing and extending #OpenSource#communities to foster contributions, while balancing commercial considerations and the open source ethos.

I don't think I have ever lived, nor seen any true #democracy existing, for my entire life(almost 50 yrs) - anywhere in the world. I've seen many people fight for democracy - despite never truly having opportunities to live it.
I'm interested in building different types of mutual beneficial #communities, not controlled by #capitalist driven government. I'm interested in bringing back more fair, #CitizensLed, #bartering systems. I loathe colonial monetary systems because they fuel #injustices.
I know I don't shut up about this but frankly not enough #people are angry about the 5-day/40 hour workweek (and I am AWARE a lot of people #work even more than that). I feel like a lot more people should be absolutely furious that we only really have two days a week and some occasional hours in the evening to socialise, run errands, do chores, or relax.
It's no wonder so many people are profoundly lonely and disconnected from their #communities when maintaining a social life in what little free time we have is incredibly difficult. If you have kids, a second #job, a very long commute, or other responsibilities, it's nearly impossible.
We literally aren't meant to live like this and I'll never stop being shocked how many people just take it as the natural state of things and don't want to throw a brick through a #billionaire's window every time they think of it.
