I tested #Guilded a bit but gotta say I prefer #Revolt over it. Though both still being centralized and being a stickler for federation and open source I'd rather like to see more features added into #Matrix#Element. :BlobHajMlem:

Element is a usability, and accesibility nightmare for even tech-savvy people. Just this year alone I've been part of 6 different migrations where startups have moved from Slack to Element for its security features. Every single one moved to either Microsoft Teams or Mattermost within a month. 2 of them had a revolt and the engineers reverted to email for realtime collaboration. #Element has lost the #usability battle when Microsoft seems a better option.
It is uncanny how #SchildiChat for #Matrix is more streamlined than #Element on all platforms: web, desktop ones, Android. Such a nice fork!
It's got no issue with editing replies on mobile. SchildiChat is packed with quality-of-life features, such as bubbles, opening to first unread message and sending read receipts as you scroll down, sliding between spaces, custom room emojis (upload via #Cinny and use in SC!). Labs are immediately available, pinned messages are on by default.
You usually had to compromise by using less stable #ElementNightly to get hands on Labs, but that's not the spirit of development I was looking for in my day-to-day messaging app, so I'm glad Schildi's got it right.
If that's not convincing enough, their mascot is a turtle with a post horn. https://schildi.chat 🐢📯
Hi! Are you a #lawyer or other #legal professional? Cool, but also, condolences.
We here at https://esq.social want to help. We're a purpose-built #Mastodon instance to provide a home base on the #fediverse for all you looney tunes.
Join us, won't you? We're nice and we've been around for a year -- which is like a decade in fediverse time.
We also have a #Slack-like platform called #Element with about 30 folks popping in and out. I’ll put that link in the next toot.
@kubikpixel i tried element but it didn’t last. FluffyChat has been my favorite for now. Multiple profiles and notifications are my favorite functions.
But the thing that draws me to Olvid — if it is confirmed — is that it offers client to client direct comms, like Telegram private chat.
Gotta get used to Fractal's way of handling newlines: Enter to send a message, and Ctrl+Enter to enter a newline in the input field. On Element, I had it set up the exact opposite way.
Does anyone have any experiences to share about implementing a community space on the #Matrix.org server using the #Element client, to facilitate secure E2EE team communications on a free server (not self-hosted) and rooms/groups for collaboration?
I’m looking for any comments on on-boarding, usability, etc, particularly in comparison with something like Framateam (from #Framasoft) using #Mattermost, and more well-known options like Discord and Slack. Other suggestions welcome!
Rant: I've been into computing since 1986 or so but just now signing into a #Matrix room with #Element or the #Gnome Fractal client completely baffles me. I've been trying for half an hour and I can't get it done. How is this the future of encrypted chat?
It was then possible to create a timeline based on a list of elements. Great for creating animations where text cards are linked to a point in the animation.
@kizu@bramus As I understand it the keyframe selectors allow us to attach to a percentage of a predefined timeline range, such as cover 100%, but wouldn’t allow us to attach to multiple elements, as the timeline either is a ScrollTimeline or a ViewTimeline.
can someone explain to me why everyone seems to equate #Matrix with #Element ?
As far as i'm aware (which is little) Element is just software building on the Matrix protocol, so why am i hearing things about this AGPL move by Element affecting Matrix in any way? "is this the start of commerciallising Matrix" like what?
New blog post. I forgot to reinstall Node when recreating my development environment so I had to do that, but it's up now. The page discusses the recent news about the relicensing-and-CLA situation, and how it relates to Spades and (to a tiny degree) the Fediverse.
Discord being down is a reminder and good a time as any to try out some decentralized alternatives.
Have you ever heard of @matrix or @element ?
The protocol is run by a nonprofit foundation and it shares similarities with #Discord except it's self hosted and #federated.
Made a "Space" that works kind of like a Discord server here:
Element has a new home and will be adopting AGPL license for Synapse, Dendrite and associated server side projects.
"Future code contributors to Synapse will need to sign a contributor license agreement (CLA) based on the Apache Software Foundation’s CLA, giving Element ownership of their contribution so we can use it to help fund Matrix core development in future."
📣⚠️📣 Announcing a new home and license (AGPLv3) for Synapse and friends: going forwards Element’s work on Synapse, Dendrite & related server-side projects is going to be released as AGPLv3 rather than Apache.
@element AGPL: Great. CLA: Required to be able to relicense for specific customers, understandable. But allows you to "go closed source".
Not sure if it is possible to codify in legal terms that Element is indefinitely required to distribute a version of the software under the AGPL, maybe the one hosted at matrix.org? That would nerf the CLA by preventing you to fully go closed and in turn preserve trust in the community.
FWIW I suggest the #Element app for Matrix. It has both a web version and an "app" (mobile/Windows/macOS/iPadOS/etc.) version. You can preview our main room here:
