Your periodical reminder that all clothing is hand made by humans, usually underpaid!
Polyester doesn't breathe and sheds microplastics when manufactured, worn and washed!
Cotton farming takes immense amounts of water and pesticides!
Viscose can be made from recycled fibres & waste cellulose, but it's a fairly toxic process!
Linen is more ecological to grow but expensive!
Just because I was thinking about it - you do know every single piece of clothing you wear was made by human hands, right?
Currently there exists only a handful of garment manufacture processes that can be done by robots, and very few that it's not cheaper to have some underprivileged human do it instead.
Every single stitch that puts together one fabric piece to another, though? Put there by a human with human hands, every time. We should pay them!
The EU is making legislation to try and tackle

'Today, 3/5s of all #clothing ends up in landfills or incinerators w/in a year of production [=] a truckload of used clothing dumped or burned per second. Most facilities are in South Asia or Africa, where it overloads the recipient nation. A #landfill near Accra, Ghana, is 60% clothes, 65 ft high, & now a notorious symboi of the crisis. Other dumping is in the #AtacamaDesert!
i've made most of my [#clothes since ~2010. PLZ avoid #FastFashion even if you cannot do that]
We've sort of got to grips with the problems with #fastfashion, and while not completely resolved we can now acknowledge the issue(s) that lie behind it... now we need to take a look at #FastTech, whose products end up in #landfill leading to further #environmental consequences in the long-run.
The #righttorepair campaign hasn't really even touched this problem, even if its starting to gain traction for more established #technology.
There are a range of ways that #fastfashion is problematic for the #environment, but perhaps one under-recognised factor is the shift to (faster) #airfeight driven by desire for quick response times from suppliers in #China.
Certainly, #supplychains have a carbon footprint patterned by the emissions problems in the merchant marine, but shifting to air transport will be making the problem worse.
Yet more reason to deal with the effective subsidy for #aviation fuel & our 'fast' consumption.
Ok, its already been here for a couple of years (floods and heatwaves in #Pakistan alone have led to multiple cycles of crop losses), but the fact that its going to happen to upto 22% of production across #Asia

Machen wir doch mal was ohne #Nazis (zumindest oberflächlich).
Was talking to a Lifeline volunteer this week and she said one of the things that amazed her the most was the huge volume of clothes donated each week in what is not a large population. #FastFashion
"In an Instagram video posted by sustainability consultant Nelly Gesare (@gesare_nelly_), a river in Kenya overflows with fast fashion waste. Textiles, plastic, and harmful chemicals from clothing are all part of the pollution harming this river and other ecosystems in other countries that have become fast fashion dumping grounds."
"... the rich man sitting reclusively at the heart of Brandy Melville, inside a whirlwind of deliberately confounding shell companies, is exactly who you think he is. Stephan Marsan is the son of a rich man, and he hates taxes and inclusivity and is a very loud Trumper with a fetish for Ayn Rand’s fantasy world of Atlas Shrugged. (He actually named a sub-label of Brandy Melville 'John Galt,' because he is that subtle.)"
