in hindsight it may have been a mistake to google "gimp mask" to try to figure out how to do a layer mask in gimp, the free and open source equivalent of photoshop
The GNU folks: Hehehe, we called it GIMP. And the main branch is called master. Because GIMP, get it?! We couldn’t possibly change it because fart noises
Also GNU folks: Why does everyone think we’re three misogynistic 12-year-old boys in a neckbeard suit?
There are so many low hanging fruits for you folks to embrace inclusivity and make a dedicated effort to clean up your act but you seem too bloody busy pissing all over the tree to mark your territory.
Are there any easy-to-use #JBIG2 tools for #Linux?
#GIMP doesn't seem to support it (yet?), and I just can't wrap my head around how to use jbig2enc -- it spits out some data to STDOUT that 'file' can't identify.
I just find the concept of lossy bilevel images compression fascinating, and I'd love to play with it to see how badly it would butcher something like a Floyd-Steinberg dithered image (and how much compression it'd actually accomplish)
GIMP is currently being ported over to GTK 3.0, which would probably also allow it to work natively on Wayland.
The release schedule for GIMP 3.0 is set to May of next year, but it's going to be tough. So, if there's anything you can do, please do consider helping out.
Here's a perfect example of what's wrong with Ubuntu's crusade to move software into snaps: if you install #GIMP from snapstore, you don't have an easy practical way to install G'MIC into it (a plugin that basically makes GIMP still worthy of running). Why not? Because, as the maintainer of the snap says1 there's no way he's going to be the arbiter of what to include. [cont…]
Mildly bitter sketch Friday. The more stylized the graphic, the less likely a highly opinionated project like any of the "foss creative suite" is open to change. /me slightly disappointed about all the bland identities.
A two frame composite of the Milky Way and my kitty "Ding" waiting for me to join him in the freezing cold tent. Ding loved to go camping with me. I sure do missing Schrödinger, the Kampin' Kitty 💔. (Photo: Massacre Rim, International Dark Sky Sanctuary, Nevada (5/23/2020).)
The more I've strayed from GIMP, the more bizarre I find it to operate whenever I do hop back to do some kind of photo manip. I've jumped to Krita for illustrations, but there's some things GIMP is better at. It's still weird, and I wonder how the heck I put up with it before Krita came along.
Okay heh heh.... This took me way longer than expected and its rough... especially cause I am still getting the hang of #GIMP but here it is @GrumpyPenguin
Vamos apoiar o #FLOSS
However, one thing I'm lacking is any sort of notification as to when new versions are released, so i can update my server. I often forget to check for months.
Maybe I could write this up into a blog post, but in going through old archived posts from birdsite, I came across a thread about a photo I was proud of. So I thought I would share it here where it won’t get lost as easily!
I am really happy with how this photo turned out! While the Pinebook Pro is indeed running elementary OS and it looks exactly like this, this photo was taken by Dani before we got the builds working. So the screen is faked. 🙈
BUT when I use i3lock/swaylock, it's off-center which is frustrating in a very #ADHD way (see screenshot)
How would I go about cropping the image to make it centered? I mean, so that the little circular login indicator thingie is centered right on the innermost triangle?
