Jeezus - as if it wasn't bad enough that every other toot mentions Twitter, now every toot that isn't talking about Twitter is talking about Threads. If Mastodon had feelings, I think it would be feeling pretty hurt right now.
(And yes, I get the irony that I've just made a whole toot talking about Twitter and Threads while complaining that people toot about Twitter and Threads ... sigh)
I moved from #reddit over to #lemmy last week... Much like I said here when I first got this account... it very much feels like the early internet.
Know what else it made me realize?
Redditors are fucking ASSHOLES.
I think I shall stay here and Lemmy, where true conversations can be had as opposed to snarky responses to... literally everything... for no good goddamn reason.
Imagine thinking #meta would pay #mastodon or #mastoadmins a dime when in two hours they’ve crushed us completely. The amount of influencers, celebrities, brands, and politicians on #threads is staggering
Can anyone explain to me why people seem so scared/apprehensive/apathetic about #Mastodon but are falling all over themselves waiting for #BlueSky? I’m on both (I like checking out all the toys) but I don’t get it. Is it pure marketing/hype? Like people want something like “old Twitter that doesn’t suck” so they think BlueSky will be that because it’s Jack Dorsey? Is that it? Are people really so mystified by Mastodon “instances” and “where to sign up”?
You know, I'd like to help fundraise for a #Mastodon / #Pixelfed / #Fediverse ad campaign. TV ads, radio ads, Twitter and Instagram ads (although good luck with that, and also yikes), a Times Square jumbotron, anywhere that will get people talking and help spark some word-of-mouth. Bring people to the light side :)
One of the things I love about the #fediverse and #activitypub is that it offers so many ways to access content. Whether you're old school #diaspora or press favorite #mastodon, whether you alpha test #kbin or chill on #calckey or #misskey or just post pics to #pixelfed ...there's a place and a format for you.
Why don't #Mastodon block filters work on the Federated timeline? It's maddening, there are somethings I do not want polluting my braincase while also wanting to monitor federated accounts which might have something of interest.
There’s been a lot of speculation around what Threads will be and what it means for Mastodon. We’ve put together some of the most common questions and our responses based on what was launched today:
@Mastodon
Given #Meta have a habit of building up tracking profiles on non-users, it's a bit disingenuous to say that #Mastodon users who federate with them won't face privacy issues...

I made a mistake, it was Fosstodon. They told Meta to fuck off. https://hub.fosstodon.org/assets/images/meeting-with-meta-email.webp
Mastodon is 100% a competitor to #Meta, and if I were #Mastodon, I would watch my back since everything Meta does is only for the benefit (or the endgame is) for themselves and their market share. Best case scenario would for Meta to extinguish Mastodon and have everyone go to #threads.
I do not understand why Mastedon is downplaying the very likely scenario of Meta EEE'ing the shit out of ActivityPub once they get people to migrate to Threads
Now, some pertinent excerpts from the press release:
"#Mastodon does not broadcast private data like e-mail or IP address outside of the server your account is hosted on. 👉Our software is built on the reasonable assumption that third party servers cannot be trusted.👈👍🤣 For example,...
...we cache and reprocess images and videos for you to view, so that the originating server cannot get your IP address, browser name, or time of access. A server you are not signed up with and logged into 👉cannot get your private data or track you across the web.👈 What it can get are your public profile and public posts, which are publicly accessible."
