"Did any user in the world want a user tracking and ad platform baked directly into their browser? Probably not, but this is Google, and they control Chrome, and this probably still won't make people switch to Firefox."
What's in the DNA of tech journalists that makes it so hard for them to use Mastodon? I've never seen any other group run head first into so many pitfalls. It's not hard, create an account, follow as many people as possible, interact. If you want the deluxe experience ask around about the best third party app and install it.
@zleap@lucifargundam@pinhman@mike oh totally agree because “outrage farming” like we see on Twitter and Tiktok doesn’t work as well on #Mastodon and the #Fediverse. That’s why I saw quite a few people who love drama came and go so fast around here. People just weren’t that interested in drama and toxicity.
@z428@indieblog i agree just finished reading, has lots of good points but also misses the ongoing efforts to provide single user options.. it doesn't need to be #mastodon and probably won't be and that's the beauty of it, compared to 2016 or even 2020 there are much devs working on the field of #activitypub, I think the #fediverse hasn't said its last word, far from it. it's a mistake to only see the Mastodon in the room, just take @manton micro.blog it's a demo it can be done differently 😊
It looks like the #Mona#mastodon app (macOS) has updated the app to handle last reading spot better across devices. Today I saw a new message about my position being updated to the cloud position. And when scrolling on my phone, it updates in real time on my laptop. Magic! Thank you Mona! Someone else was commenting here a few days ago, can’t find that post now, but hopefully you see this.
A while back now and despite my best efforts, I ended up as moderator of the main #Knitting community over on #Lemmy.
It's a lovely little group with some much more talented knitters than me, but as with all such things we could probably do with a little more content.
If you're a knitter and you might be interested in cross-posting your own stuff straight from #Mastodon to the community on Lemmy, to get more eyes on your work and meet new folks, feel free to reach out for info on how it works!
