spoilers ahead I felt like the character conflict arcs were contrived and ultimately the idea of learning a language makes you a pre-cog fell flat for me. In science fiction, the big idea goes 'woo!' or the characters go 'woo!' but in the case of Arrival, nothing really went 'woo!'...
I wanted to join in on the #LastFourWatched as well! I don’t watch a ton of movies or tv, unless I can count watching and rewatching Pink Fong & Baby Shark Space Adventure with my kids 😝 but here they are anyway! I think I’ve seen 3 movies this month lol #LetterboxdFriday#Movies#Parenting#Kids
An alien predator arrives on Earth and starts picking off the locals, evoking their culture’s tales of mythic glory in the process. One guy — a guy who might mean more to the natives than they know — stands up to find a weakness and fight back. Sound familiar? Nope, we’re not talking about the actual Predator… though...
While all forms of art require imagination, the genre of science-fiction is one in which it is especially crucial. Films in this category envision entire worlds of a bright (or dark) future or one inhabited by lifeforms of a greater intelligence — much like the filmmakers who created some of the following films that earned a...
Hi! New instance, new #introduction :ablobwob: I'm Kal, a queer filipino with chronic Just-A-Lil-Guy-ism. If I must be perceived I'd like to be thought of as "good uncomplicated company", but honestly I might be unhinged? I'm prone to making text walls and playlists when I have brainrot. I enjoy talking to new people about the things we care about, and I love to rage as much as I love to hope.
Expect a lot of boosting, personal blubbering, and fandom excitement.
🎬 #TCM has been tap-dancing for their new bosses at least since April when their schedule was *all #WarnerBros movies, and their interstitial segments were variations of "100th Anniversary of Four Brothers With a Dream."
I watched most of the #BetteDavis screenings, including "The Star" (1952), which was new to me.
If the term "Pandora's box" was ever applicable to a scientific breakthrough, the Manhattan Project's detonation of the first atomic bomb in the summer of 1945 would have to be a frontrunner alongside genetic editing, super colliders, and artificial intelligence.
I l-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-v-e talking about the craft of writing.
I love it even more when talking craft with a craftsman like Kevin J. Anderson.
Kevin is incredibly successful. He's novelized the Star Trek universe, the X-Files Universe, the Star Wars universe and especially the Dune universe (Kevin's co-authored 16 Dune novels with Frank Herbert's son Brian Herbert).
That's harder to do than it looks!
He's also created a shit-ton of his own original work including a hilarious series of books about Dan Shamble, Zombie PI.
As we sit here, Kevin has over 23 million books in print.
He's also written a couple of Superman novels. So, he really is (a) writing Superman!
