In short, I write and design TTRPGs and adventures as a worker-owner of Archstone Press, and I’m particularly interested in some of these things: #NSR#OSR#RuneQuest#PbtA#Pathfinder#BronzeAge fantasy, #Cairn (and the games that came out of it), and #worldbuilding in general!
I started out on the fediverse arooooound...I wanna say 2017/18 mebbe? My big start in social media was MySpace. Before that, I had a LiveJournal (which I miss mightily with all my heart). My very first computer was a Gateway PC, back when they shipped them to you in those awesome cow spot pattern boxes. I am trying to de-google my life.
I'm #ADHD and suffer from #dysthymia. I'm currently unmedicated. I can be damned moody at times, so there's your warning.
Religiously/spiritually speaking, I'm complicated. That will be a long post, when I get around to writing it. My general rule is: I have my thing. It's not everybody's thing, and that's cool. Not everybody's thing is my thing, and that's cool. Just don't be a wanker towards those whose thing ain't your thing. OM 🕉
I'm 57 years old and have come to the conclusion that we never truly appreciate the decades we grew up in until we hit middle age.
I'm single and childless, hence my user tag: TheLastOfHisName.
OK, running #RuneQuest with 3 adventurers is always going to be a dicey business. They won but one adventurer bled out from a head wound because the First Aid roll failed and the only other adventurer who could heal was in a one-on-one honor duel with a Humakti whilst this was happening… #CanCon#CattleRaid
Ah damn. Jennell Jacquays has died. She co-wrote "Griffin Mountain", the first #RuneQuest campaign I ran. I still think about some of the scenarios written for that campaign, and that was over 40 years ago.
Fly well, Jannelle, and thanks for the memories.
About to meet the GM of the intermittent Sunday #RuneQuest game where I play the Axe Sister Varena. An actual FTF meeting! For the first time! And then breakfast.
As I am delving further into #Glorantha , I am struck how the default assumption of #RuneQuest is that the player character are tightly bound to a specific clan and region - while in #DnD , the PCs are usually assumed to be "independent adventurers" beholden to no one (neither of these #ttrpg are limited to these approaches, but that's usually the starting point).
Which brings me to the scope of the games I have played in and run in the past. In my younger days, the PCs were often globetrotting - traveling from one country or region to the next. I suspect we were all influenced by "The Lord of the Rings" which, after all, is a huge travel quest.
But now, as I grow older, I usually run campaigns with a more regional focus. The PCs almost always have a fixed "home base", and there are lots of recurring NPCs they interact with - and scheme with or against. They will explore the surrounding regions, and their hometown will change over time - but they will always return home.
Thus, I am curious - what is the scope of your own campaign? Are the PCs homeless travelers who always move from one place to the next - or do they stick to a particular town or region?
As someone who struggled with #RuneQuest during the pre-Guide draught, it’s been a real pleasure to see the ancient RPG find new life thanks to #JeffRichards, the newest RQ2-compatible edition #RuneQuestGlorantha, a wave of new fans, and the amazing amount of new material such as #SixSeasonsInSartar.
Last sunday my #Runequest campaign started. 4 players at the table with different degree of #ttrpg experience and myself as GM and newbie to this edition of the game. We played A Rough Landing, part of the Starter Set. It went well! Combat is a bit crunchy, but everyone had fun.
Okay, I must say that reading through old #Glorantha / #RuneQuest#ttrpg material is certainly good for lots of interesting plot ideas, among other things.
Such as:
"The main cult of an expanding empire is planning to marry one of its priestesses to the city god of a remote city-state in order to tie that city closer to the empire!"
I hadn't come across that type of plot before, but it certainly has lots of potential for adventures...
#TheFarawayPaladin is actually fine as a pure fantasy genre story. The plot beats feel like a DnD campaign. Party members gain powers just when they'd be useful. Evil amassing far away.
And that is why it fails to classify as "Modern Anime". There's no tropey hook. No cliffhangers between episodes. No ridiculous plot twist. Not that many people seem to care about it. :meowthinking:
Apart from the interesting beginning, there's barely any anime tropes, just regular fantasy ones. No cute elf girl (only a cute halfling girl). No animal people.
@anianimalsmoe@rfnix Sure but bear in mind that my jam as a GM is usually #RuneQuest where interesting relationships to gods is more the norm than in DnD so I appreciated that aspect a lot more. Plus see also: #DeedOfPaksennarrion
"Yes, the Red Emperor has died a couple of times. And when he came back, he had different appearances and personalities. But he is always the same person!"
I've decided to start reading the #RuneQuest#ttrpg , and am currently reading the #Glorantha Sourcebook.
And I must say, Orlanth comes across as a massive jerk. Not only the whole "killing the Sun" thing, but also his "courtship" of Ernalda. Which seems to be mostly about him getting upset at her, and she doing her best to appease him - a pretty toxic relationship, in my opinion.
The Ram and Warrior faces Death. Yanafal Tarnils, guided by the Red Goddess, prepares to face Humakt in battle and become the Lunar War God. Picture by Katrin Dirim.
There's an explosion of graphic creativity with #Runequest:#Glorantha that never ceases to amaze me ! And I'm particularly fond of Katrin Dirim's art. It's intricate, full of symbolic details and captures a feeling of what antique art's vibrancy could have been. Wonderful.
😅 #Glorantha#PnpDE
Ahhh, found home after a brief, good start of a few weeks in the Fediverse. Looking forward to exploring and supporting tabletop rpgs here. Of late : joined GenCon Online this year, considering design on an rpg and/or system agonistic mini rpg on social interactions and /or relationships and hoping to play in a Blades in the Dark crew and worldbuilding campaign one day (or similar). I'm also an oldie who is Noobie to Glorantha this year. Partly kicked it off playing at ChaosiumCon 2023.
@nukehavoc Thanks! I've so many #FitD games waiting 4 play, they'd make a multiverse. I want to house rule #Scum And Villainy and Gambits into #BladesInTheDark . #SavageWorlds is the only thing I haven't seen in your list, but have to one shot one day.
Thinking about my character for a new #RuneQuest campaign starting up next month. All the player characters come from the same clan, and start at 16 years old, so I'm going to have to remember what it's like to be a teenager. 🤣 Regarding profession, I'm thinking maybe hunter. #Glorantha#SixSeasonsInSartar
OK, so my character has an "awakened" cat, with INT. I think the cat's smarter than the human, although that wouldn't be the first time that's happened. 🤣 #RuneQuest#Glorantha#SixSeasonsInSartar
