Being trans is not a mental health condition, but living in a transphobic society can cause or exacerbate mental ill health.
“We are a tiny minority who face discrimination on a daily basis. It's hard to date and nigh on impossible to get healthcare support We have to think about where we travel, which companies we apply for jobs with and every day trans women are judged on our appearances.”

What are the factors impacting trans people's mental health? Yesterday we posted about issues with access to healthcare and the knock on effects that can have.
Issues around employment can also have a huge impact on a person's mental health.
In our Trans Lives Survey 2021, 80% of non-binary respondents told us they’d experienced transphobia from colleagues.
so the bbc and the times (both far right in politics) after years of attacking lgbtqaai people have moved onto neurodivergent
There is a documentary out claiming lots of people are "misdiagnosed" with adhd/add
They did this by having a journalist lie about his symptoms
Guess what - if you lie to a doctor they will misdiagnose you
Let's ask why they did this? #trans#nonbinary#adhd#add@actuallyautistic
i know some great artists, but they work in a different style than i'm looking for, so if you work in a pretty realistic (not photo-real, just more grounded) style, i'm interested in hiring someone to look at old pictures of me from when i was young and redraw me as presenting female instead of stuck in boymode like i really was
have commissioned a lot of art in the past, know how to communicate and will pay competitive rates
I have family in #Florida. I have friends in Florida. My professional association's annual convention this year is in Florida.
Florida just passed a law letting doctors and healthcare facilities refuse to treat LGBTQ+ people if they have religious objections to our existing. That presumably includes life-saving emergency room care.
Other than visiting older close relatives, I probably will never go to Florida again. It joins my list of dangerously fanatical Bible Belt states to stay the hell away from.
Why? Non-binary Icon. Formerly, the Archandroid. Music videos dripping in Pansexual Polyamory and odes to sapphic love. Monae has been a pillar of queer music for a decade They just dropped a new music video for her new upcoming album. And it is Black queer joy at it's best.
Where to start?
"Lipstick Lover" is her new single and they are out here just loving on themselves and their sexuality.
I went to LGBT boardgame night with these faux thigh high cat tights I got from hot topic. I originally put them on to amuse my sister, but I kept them on. I got the most compliments of anything I've ever worn out. #LGBT#BoardGames#Trans
#Trans and #intersex people have been around since humans (or maybe even our pre-human ancestors) could think about and articulate the concepts of #gender and #sex. With gender norms came people who defied them, or simply didn’t fit the definitions. There has never been a culture or a period without #nonbinary people, without non-cis people, without intersex people. We have as many names as there are stars in the sky.
It's #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek this week and we'll spending the week highlighting the issues that contribute to trans people being more likely to experience poor mental health. We'll also be sharing some self-care tips.
Three quarters (74 per cent) of young adults who say they are not supportive of #trans people don’t actually know a trans person, according to new research by Just Like Us, the #LGBTQ+ young people’s charity.

The uncertainty of being stuck on a long waiting list can impact trans people's mental health as well as their careers. Money worries that come from being unemployed can then act to exacerbate the issue.
Jak told us: "I lost my job because of the uncertainty of surgery and when I was going to be called for my next surgery My mental health has been massively effected as I'm stuck, my life can't progress."
I re-watched 'Hidden Figures' today, and was struck by the parallel between bathroom access for African-Americans back then, and transgender Americans now.
Telegraph: "Daughters excluded from peerage due to gender outraged by trans Tory standing for Lords seat ... Matilda Simon, Baron of Wythenshawe, allowed to stand as a trans woman in a by-election under a legal loophole - because she was born a man"
For once, the UK 🇬🇧 law is an ass but the Torygraph also really haven't thought this through. An analysis -
Under the Gender Recognition Act 2004 a trans woman with a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC) becomes legally female "for all purposes"
But there's an exclusion for inheritted peerages so the GRA “does not affect the descent of any peerage or dignity or title of honour”
Either the TERFs and Torygraph accept the wider intent of the GRA 2004 and full legal change and implications for all trans people with a GRC or they don't. Can't have it both ways?
But as trans, I also have to say this UK exception feels very weird now in 2023!

Only about 65% of men who survived genital cutting as children are glad they experienced the genital cutting, while 35% outright reject it or have mixed feelings.
In a groundbreaking decision, the US Supreme Court has unanimously ruled in favor of Estrella Santos-Zacaria, a trans woman from Guatemala seeking refuge in the US. Santos-Zacaria had suffered physical harm and death threats due to her gender identity and sexual orientation in Guatemala, and she feared for her safety if she were to return.
