Here we go, the first round of Grand Prix du St. Jana 2024! 😅
The time for spraying the vineyard is here, let's protect it from the pest!

Fruit of the Vine

I live just east of Napa valley. There are many wineries in Solano and other neighboring counties to visit.
Early to mid fall the grapes become ready for harvest and the wineries team with activity. Here is a bunch of grapes that will become red wine.
This image was captured just before the harvest. See the full image here: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/fruit-of-the-vine-bill-gallagher.html #

Loving the views we’re getting between waves of this storm. This is one of my favorite I’ve gotten out at , looking west over the greening toward the Santa Lucia Mountains.

About two months ago, I had posted an autumn view of Wildeck Castle in southwestern Germany (see https://famichiki.jp/@norbertwoehnl/111215603869858361).

Today is a good time to post a chilly winter view of the castle, taken from roughly the same vantage point. Wildeck is home to a viticulture school, developing ecological approaches to wine-growing, as well as conducting research on the local Württemberger wines.

Fall In Suisun Valley
For years the Suisun Valley has taken a back seat to the more well known wine growing areas to the west, Napa and Sonoma County. Things are changing.
There have been a number of established wineries out on Wooden Valley Road and surrounding area. I counted at least 3 new wineries on my short drive on this day. See the full image here: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/fall-in-suisun-valley-bill-gallagher.html?newartwork=true

A Bunch Of Grapes

There is certainly a joy living near one of the most famous wine regions in the world. A trip to the vineyards is certainly one of them.
I captured these not too far off from the harvest season at one of the local wineries. I really loved the complimentary colors of the green leaves and the deep blue/purple of the grapes. See the full image here: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/a-bunch-of-grapes-bill-gallagher.html

Abadal Arboset, the great Catalan wine that came from an abandoned stone hut.

This winery in northeastern Spain has revived an old artisanal method, using native grape varieties and old structures that were once on the verge of disappearing.

I have been seeing the “there are some positives to climate change for us here in England” take quite a few times recently: the people described in this article; the statement last week (will share link below); and this brochure by a local . I know it’s obvious but just want to really call this out, for 3 reasons:

  1. With so much of rest of world already really suffering it is morally abhorrent to go on about benefits here

A Bunch Of Grapes

There is certainly a joy living near one of the most famous wine tasting areas in the world. A trip to the vineyards is certainly one of them.
There are a number of wineries where my wife and feel like home at. I have got to know a number of wine makers over the years and have been given the opportunity to photograph a few vineyards unfettered.

Fall Color Napa Style

Fall color comes to Napa late in the year. At least compared to my friends in the North. The colors here start changing typically towards the end of October when all the color in the north has already fallen off of the trees and seem to reach their peak early to mid November. Napa Morning

I love driving up into the Napa Valley in the late fall and early spring in the early morning. The weather is cooler and the roads are less crowded. On top of that the sun is lower in the sky and seems to create excellent lighting of the vineyards.
I found this scene in the northern part of the valley just south of Calistoga. See the full image here: https://fineartamerica.com/featured/napa-morning-bill-gallagher.html
