Having second thoughts about my self-hosted #Mastodon instance, it’s just too much of a resource hog for a single user / small instance on a 4 core / 4G vServer if you want to run other stuff (#writefreely is live, #pixelfed to be installed!) as well. On the other hand it is very nice that the software is stable, reliable and well designed. So either I need to move to a bigger server or decommission my self-hosted profile and look into other options for micro / macro blogging self-hosting again. I did like #gotosocial but the current version doesn’t install on my #yunohost properly. Tried #Akkoma and #Pleroma - weren’t my thing, can’t get over the design. I do like #Friendica and its possibilities but it is a bit clunky at times and I have some doubts if protocols other than the quasi standard #ActivityPub have much of a main stream future which kinda could make the additional Friendica features a little islandish. Same applies to #Hubzilla which I only start testing. Leaves #Misskey and #Calckey which could be good options but not sure about the reliability and gameplan there, I don’t want to tinker every night on my server so #Calckey probably need to become a little more stable first, #Misskey seems to have no current version on YunoHost, so need to explore other install options… Any thoughts very welcome! @fediversenews@fediversede
Since Mastodon's limit on characters doesn't allow lengthy Posts I have in mind on some subjects I pondered starting a #blog . Checking The possibilities of The #fediverse I am a little Bit crushed with information. I found Websites saying #friendica#writefreely#plume or #socialhome would be for blogging, but couldn't find much Else, since Most explanations are about Mastodon.
Could someone pleased #help and elaborate where The differences are, or give some pointers? 😊

I was using #WriteFreely so much I forgot that WordPress was an option.

Acabo de ver que el sistema de gestión de borradores que tiene #WriteFreely es un poco... malo. El post en borradores es público, aunque no aparece en el reader, y no es posible cambiar el slug. Así que nada más publicarlo tendrá una dirección extraña y cuando la cambies para que sea más amigable se romperá el enlace de la publicación en el fediverso (como en mi publicación sobre las estilográficas).

Mam mały problem z moim postem na #WriteFreely.pl - nie mogę podać cen w dolarach (np. $22), ponieważ jakoś dziwnie się wtedy formatuje. Próbowałem wstawić "" przed znak dolara, natomiast ten ukośnik ten był widoczny. Co mogę z tym zrobić?
@seanb@kainoa@atomicpoet The name change also helps avoid a potential legal fight online, as there is already a company using the #Calckey name on the App Store (it's a calculator app that does not boast great ratings).
Changing it is a good thing! Once #Spacehost launches & a decent iPhone / iPad app arrives, I plan to launch a solo instance based upon the platform formally known as Calckey.
Mostly, it was because I was having domain issues that seemed too much of a pain in the ass to troubleshoot, and I decided that deleting was ultimately easier than figuring out a fix.
What can I say? I'm lazy.
But ultimately, I'd rather put all that stuff on the #Fediverse anyway.
Sure, I can't make everything look just so. But I think the truth is that most people don't care about the aesthetics of my blog theme. They care much more about receiving my messages.
When not considering themes, there's not much of a difference between maintaining a blog and updating a Fediverse account -- especially when you consider that so many platforms already support Markdown and HTML.
I'll go even further. #WriteFreely is a blog platform that has #ActivityPub integration out of the box. It works well.
And if you want a full CMS suite, both #WordPress and #Drupal are capable of being federated with an ActivityPub plug-in and they're getting better all the time.
At this point in time, I don't even want to blog without federation capabilities. That would be like opting for a unicycle instead of a bicycle. Sure, a unicycle is fun but not very practical.
If a key part of blogging is the practicality of being read -- but initiating dialogue -- then federation is extremely important. And it's becoming more and more important each day.

Ho deciso di riaprire il mio vecchio blog su #writefreely. Ho ripreso a scrivere poesie, prose, articoli, mi servirà come una specie di taccuino anche per tener la data delle cose.
Stamattina ho scritto questi versi, mi ero dimenticato come essere innamorato (si può dire ancora dopo i 16 anni?) significhi anche soffrire quando qualcosa non va, quando la tristezza e la malinconia adombrano le giornate dell'altra persona, e non si sa cosa fare - né se è opportuno far qualcosa - per poter aiutare ad alleggerire un po' l'animo, o defilarsi, sparire, mettersi in un cantuccio, senza fare rumore, senza disturbare.
Acabo de darme cuenta de que en #WriteFreely no hay forma de subir imágenes... Hay que utilizar un servicio externo para alojarlas y publicarlas posteriormente en WF.
Buscando donde alojar las fotos para compartirlas en el blog, he visto que la instancia principal de WF (de pago) ofrece otros servicios como el alojamiento de fotos y la gestión de los comentarios. Y esto me hace pensar que quizás estas funcionalidades no las incluyan en el código de WF.

I've been wondering if it has to do with the amount of blogs there and the cost of maintaining the instance, but then again whoever runs it hasn't linked any social media or whatever place to contact them or support the instance.
