@Smootasaurus Meh, Jon has it wrong. It’s not that Biden’s age isn’t an issue. It’s that it’s one of many issues which aren’t getting attention, and continuing the conversation amplifies the problem.

Younger would be better. It’s not a realistic option.

I think one of the reasons ants are so interesting to watch is the expressive way they move their antennae. They move them independently, almost like a person feeling around trying to understand their surroundings. Not all arthropods do this— some just hold them out passively— but not ants! They will tappity tap tap u.

How to fix the crisis and stop illegal to / once and for all:

    1. Stop overthrowing, sanctioning and destroying democratically-elected Latin American countries.

    2. Invest money in Latin America so the people there don't feel they have no choice but to flee to the .

    3. Raise the minimum wage and punish capitalists for hiring low-wage workers, many of whom are desperate illegal immigrants who are being exploited.

    Neither nor would do this.

@TCatInReality @nadiaalbelushi Beyond that, trying to blame Biden for not moving everything 5 steps to the left with an evenly divided congress defies reason. There are few progressive measures Biden hasn't tried to move forward on. Either the courts or congress has stopped them.

During World War I, the Ottoman Empire collectively blamed the millions of Armenians in their territory for attacks by Armenian resistance fighters. Around 1M non-combatants were killed by the Ottoman military — in many cases, by forced marches through the Syrian desert without food and water.

Denouncing this genocide doesn’t make you an Armenian resistance fighter or an advocate for their views. It just means you’re against genocide.

In 1994, in the wake of the Rwandan civil war, the president of Rwanda was killed. Military and government officials suspected the Tutsi-aligned Rwandan Patriotic Front and blamed the Tutsi and Twa people collectively. They organized the mass killing of Tutsi people; between 500,000 and 1M people were killed in the following three months.

Abhoring this murder doesn’t make you a partisan of the Rwandan Patriotic Front. It just means you’re a human, opposed to the systematic slaughter of humans.

On October 7 2023, Hamas’s military wing attacked and killed about 550 Israeli soldiers and as many Israeli civilians. They kidnapped, tortured and raped hundreds more. In response, Israel has denied food, water and medical supplies to the 2.3M people of Gaza, driven them from their homes to a tiny sliver of land near the Egyptian border, destroyed half of all residential buildings, killed 30,000 people and seriously injured 60,000 more. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has called this action a plausible genocide.

Wanting this genocide to end with an immediate ceasefire doesn’t mean you support Hamas or want Israel to be destroyed. It means you’re opposed to mass killing and expulsion of people from their homeland.

Is it exactly the same as these other examples? Absolutely not. Genocide never is. But you can be on the side of humanity against the destruction of the people of Gaza and it doesn’t make you an advocate for the views or actions of Hamas.

@evanprodromou In none of the previous cases, were the murderers building bunkers under hospitals to maximize civilian casualties. The case against Israel is in the West Bank, not Gaza.

Trump and Biden are both old.

Trump is a lunatic, rapist, traitor, and wannabe dictator who tried to overthrow the government to stay in power and can’t distinguish fantasy from reality and revels in inflicting cruelty on other humans.

Joe Biden is a middle of the road politician who despite his many flaws on the whole ACTUALLY has done good things for America and especially American workers.

Voting for Joe Biden over Trump is literally the easiest choice in my lifetime.

    Extra_Special_Carbon,
    @Extra_Special_Carbon@mastodon.world avatar

@PeachMcD @KawaTora @Mlobbes There’s nothing to be curious about. He’s a troll, probably misrepresenting themselves. Block and move on. Israel has gone further than I like, but Hamas has no interest in civilian lives, and they deliberately put civilians at risk. Every civilian life lost, is ultimately caused by Hamas. You don’t build bunkers under hospitals unless you want civilians dead.

Just because you had your head in the sand for the entire #Trump presidency doesn’t mean there was “peace everywhere”

Kids were getting gassed in Syria.

There were 2,243 drone strikes in the first two years of Trump.

There was a failed coup in Venezuela.

Trump’s policy of deterrence by tweet allowed North Korea to fully develop ICBMs.

Should we be concerned about or does the increasingly shrill coverage of their 'dangers' obscure the more structural issues within the that require our attention?

Eric Robinson (Liverpool U) concludes, this hype may 'distract attention from much-needed government action to restrict food industry marketing & sales of the types of foods we already know are bad for health – foods higher in sugar, salt, saturated fat & calories'!

    https://theconversation.com/ultra-processed-foods-heres-what-the-evidence-actually-says-about-them-220255?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1705683889

@ChrisMayLA6 It’s classism, plain and simple. You can also find these “dangerous” ultra-processed ingredients in Haute cuisine. There are entire online stores with them, such as the Modernist Pantry. Xantham gum is a standard in my pantry.

It’s the fat, salt, sugar, and calories that are killing us. Processed food is made for longer shelf life, and travel, which often means concentrating these factors.

But the uproar about it is straight up classism.
